Location: Athens, Ohio | https://www.boats.com/reviews/cox-cxo300-diesel-outboard-review/ Abt twice the price of a comparable gas, according to the review. You gain more torque and the advantage of not having to mix fuels. Still..where do you find a marina with fuel? So, you change your boat over from gas to diesel. You fill your boat's tank with that smelly stuff. Can you ever then go back to gas? m .m Edited by mikie 2/14/2024 10:10 AM

Posts: 3483 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I went to the OXE marine website to see what the cost would be for a 150 hp... $50,600 with rigging. And...I'd have to have my jackplate up all the way as they only offer a 25" and 33" lower unit length... That is over 3 times the value of my rig with all the stuff on it as it stands with my 150 Etec. OUCH!! Pretty cool, though... Found a video of a twin engine set up running... Can really hear the turbos wind up!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBTyfkbZKqQ Edited by VMS 2/14/2024 10:53 AM

He couldn't use one that big but my brother in law is a commercial fisherman in AK. His tender boat has an outboard, so he has to bring gas for that, while everything on the fishing boat runs on diesel, even the cooking stove. Be nice for guys like that to just have one type of fuel to purchase.

Posts: 648 Location: Duluth | Was able to see these and the competitor at a trade show in October, all I can say is that these units are LARGE I am a diesel fan though, just hard for me to imagine having a boat large enough for the application and still wanting an outboard..... Posts: 762 | At the end of the article, the author refered to some downsides. Would that be increased emissions than a comparable gas outboard? Can't have that. Still, I could see charter boat Captains be interested in these engines. Kdawg

Fun fact, Mercury has used both of those platforms in the past. Most recently a weird cummins/merc/vw diesel engine that get installed in large sailboats.

Location: Athens, Ohio | "The new 4.6-liter Mercury V8 FourStroke, for example, has a listed weight of 538 pounds; Yamaha’s F300 Offshore V6 weighs 562 pounds; and the Suzuki DF300A tips the scales at 639 pounds. The Cox tops them all significantly, with a dry weight of 826 pounds." from the review cited above. m

And when you look at charter boats like in SE Alaska, they all have at least two outboards. 2 of the Cox weigh more than 3 of the Mercs. So 900 hp vs 600 hp for roughly the same weight.

I wouldn't want to work on that thing lol
