| Any manufacturers still making rods with the Revolution reel seats? I know St. Croix has their version, but wanted to possibly check out others this weekend. |

Location: Twin Cities, MN | I know St. Croix has their version --- definitely not the same, more like a 2-3 fingered version, not a full handle like the Revolution. It's very small and made for palming, not for holding onto in my opinion.
Tried to attach a photo showing each next to each other, but it's too big. Will try later today after work.

- Have you had the reel seat or handle break?
- When it does break on the rod, what can you do?
- Is the long handle rigid where it interfaces with the seat?
I use the jig rippers, but I've had them break - either the nut pulls through the plastic or the plastic rod mount cracks. The cork handles are the worst; the interface between the handle and seat is not rigid and they flex/rock, fatiguing the seat plastic until it gives. They seem to last longest with the original all plastic handle. This is obviously a major concern when the seat is built-in to the rod.
Has anyone here used one heavily over a good period of time? |

Location: West Central WI | A custom rod builder can make you one. When the Revolution reel seat first came out, I ordered two from Outdoor Grips for rods I was building. This was before the longer optional handle was available so I custom made longer handles, using 1" oak dowel covered with reamed cork rings. I kept one and sold one to a muskie fishing buddy. Those worked well, were solid, and very comfortable to use. Photo of Revolution seat on top and Jig Ripper on bottom.
Also, if Elk River Rods is at one of the winter shows, they make some with the Revolution reel seat.

I have used the Revolution Reel Seat on a TI rod for the last couple of years. I don't muskie fish a lot compared to most people on this forum - maybe 20-25 days a year. The handle has held up well for me using it for big blades and rubber baits. The answer to your last question is that the shoulder of the handle bumps against the seat before the threads bottom out. Your experiences with handles will make me more cognizant of how mine performs. |
