I know many won't fish Muskies South of the Canadian border in the heat of summer. But what about North of the border? At what water temp would you not pursue them? And at what depth is that temp, surface temp or say 10' down? I'd be interested to hear peoples opinion. As far as the water temp goes is that just because of the stress on the fish while landing it?

I saw a interview of Don Pursch talking about high water temps even in Canada something to be considered in the future.
Living where I live I only get up in the fall or early June at best.

80 is what I've always heard. We've come close up in Canada on flat hot days in shallow back bays, but never in the main lake basin. Even when we've had super hot weeks up there a little wind cools it right down so I suspect what you're looking at even a few feet down is a lot cooler. Contrast that with some of the smaller shallow lakes we fish in WI and IL and I suspect when you're pushing 80 on the surface it's most of the water column.

We quit fishing when water is 80+ degrees. Here at Leech it's typically 0-10 days per year when we see these type of temps, at least in the morning hours. I also won't target basin fish with surface water temps over 75, or when fish are holding 20+ feet down.

Once the temp hits 75 and over. Plus it gets harder to catch them. If you know waters that stay cool all summer are the best places in summer.

People have their vacations planned and deposit paid. Most are going to fish regardless of the temps.

I’ve done this in the summer now I’ve learned to only plan trips for Muskie in the spring or fall when the waters temps get cooler. The only thing I catch was a sun burn. Lol. Another thing is I fish for warm water fish like catfish or carp. Leave the colder water fish alone.

Same goes for north of the border. Anything close to 80 and the rods come out of the water.
