Hi all. I want to make fluorocarbon leaders for my pike streamers. I bought 80 lbs Sufix fluorocarbon. There is just one problem. After coming of the spool, the fluorocarbon stays curly. How do I straighten it out?

Attach on end to something solid and use something to grab the other end and pull hard. I tie a wire to a beam in my basement where I slip on the swivel end and a claw hammer in the snap end and put my weight down, it serve as a good way to sinch those knots as well as making them straight.

Has anyone tried a piece of leather or suede like the flyfisherman use to straighten their leaders? You just pinch the line and run it through a few times. The heavy mono might not work however.

I use a piece of old inertube about 5" square and pinch the line between the rubber and pull hard. You have do it several times to get the line to straighten out.

Use the fly fishing leather tool designed specifically for what you want like Lobi said. Pinch the line between the pads and pull it through several times. You are really just trying to heat it up enough so it will retain the straight shape.

Let me ask this question. As Flouro is pretty flexible as is. Is there really a need to straighten it out? Seems to straighten out on its own with the weight of the lure behind it?
