Subject: Settings on Mega Humminbird Units

Put a new Mega SI/DI unit on the bow of my boat last year. Like it a lot but was watching a video made by a walleye pro who is sponsored by Humminbird and he indicated that if fishing shallower water <15 feet, you should use the lower power settings rather than Mega. Curious how others are setting their units up for shallow water.

It depends on how the bottom returns are showing up. The lower settings are more powerful in that they will have better returns at deeper depths than Mega. But under 20' I'm usually looking at the high end for more definition. Check out Doug Vahrenberg on youtube or the BBC Humminbird forum for what his recommendations are. I also have mine set on salt water (shallow) vs fresh, and I'm constantly adjusting the dash unit for the constantly varying conditions as the boat moves. The bow unit gets adjusted a lot less as I'm moving slower.

I know...my Terrova became ballast on me my last trip up. They fit me in, repaired the trolling motor, and tweaked on my birds all in a couple of hours.. I trust them more than the manufacturer's support people..

Northland helps us with parts when we couldn't get them anywhere else and put a longer shaft on one of our Ultrex trollers. Fast reliable service.
