sworrall - 4/26/2022 6:46 AM Woke up to snow on the ground again today. Local weather says teens tonight. 50's over the weekend. After tonight, it looks like there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for our area. I hope it is not a train. Will be interesting to see what late ice out does to things like crappies moving to shallower water in the spring. Last year for musky opener, had a lot of weed growth. Wonder if that will be delayed? Always interesting to see how weather impacts natural cycles.

Posts: 32902 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If it remains as cool and cloudy VS average as it has, the weed growth will be reduced for sure. Crappies will be in the backs of the mud bottom bays and heading to the shorelines first on the North face within a few days of ice out. I like late ice-out for walleyes, should be really good.

Posts: 1254 Location: Walker, MN | The problem with extended forecasts is that after 5-6 days, they tend to just throw the average temp for that date at you. 5-10 days out always looks closer to average temps...it's an educated guess.

Posts: 2349 Location: Chisholm, MN | Ogandrews - 4/25/2022 10:08 PM Every year for walleye opener I go to lake vermilion although I’m really doubtful it’s going to be thawed out. I heard a report that on Saturday there was still 40” of ice on a Ely area lake. Doubt vermilions that bad but it looks like I might be fishing around home or heading down to Iowa to musky fish There is almost no sign of ice melting anywhere up this way. Just a little in some current areas. And not a good forecast for melting. Even if it does melt, we're going to see 34 degree water temps.

Is the earth tipping on its axis? Cold weather in the Midwest while the north pole experienced temps 50 above average and the Antarctic set a record of 70 degrees above average, warmest temp ever recorded in the Antarctic. Really weird weather.

With as cold as this is it makes me wonder if there will still be prespawn fish on V by the time that opener comes in June. I know other years that have had a cold spring that I’ve still seen fish paired up a couple days before opener but I haven’t been around for one this cold.

Posts: 767 | Looks like next week in nw wis. is going to be beautiful, temps in the mid 60's and dry. Great for the opener, 65 degrees and sunny. Of course it could change but warmer weather is on the way. Walleyes on the gravel shorelines, 5-8ft of water, on slow moving swimbaits is the plan. Kdawg

Posts: 32902 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The winds will help a lot, 35mph today and 40s. We need that warm weather next week, there are quite a few lakes locked in solid still.

Spent about hour and a half putting in neighbor's dock and both his son in law and I took water over top of waders when hit by waves.

Top H2O - 4/30/2022 7:20 PM Wet socks suck ! Ha! Didn't get quite that far. When I took the waders off, looked like I should have been wearing Depends. Edited by North of 8 4/30/2022 7:55 PM

Posts: 767 | 71 degrees and sun for today. I was at the local bait shop yesterday and learned the water temp on my chain was at 49. Boat traffic is heavy already. Have a good season, here we go! Kdawg
