BIG winds across the upper Midwest tomorrow, gusting to 60. I think a kite would be out of the question.

Last night on the news they said it was going to be windy today, so I logged on here a half hour ago then logged off and watched the 8:00 AM news. 80 mph winds at some ski areas and 60 mph winds in some of the western subburbs.
They showed a news guy in Golden and he was getting rained on then during his report it changed to snow.
Went out got the paper and the wind started to really blow and drizzle and then rain. (its December should be snow) Had to bring in some Christmas decorations. Good thing its not trash day!

Given the state of Lake Mead and the other big reservoirs out west, the moisture is indeed needed but whew, that map looks scary.

Boy it is dry here along the front range, The storm that tore up Kentucky dropped a couple feet of much needed snow in the mountains and on Dec. 10 we got .03" inches of snow at the airport for the first official snowfall. ( a record for the latest first snow for Denver) I've had 17 flakes of snow or rain this year at my house. The last two summers you can't see the mountains from the smoke from local fries or from smoke California fires. And the summers are getting hotter and hotter and it used to cool down in the fall. Up till three years ago the latest 100 degree day was 16th of August now we get over 100 in September and when I moved here 30 years ago it had never been 80 in November this year we had 80 lots of high 70's. Even 60's and 70's in Dec. Too hot! And the ski areas open later and later every year.

My oldest son sent me some pics today of all the dirt in the air in NE Colorado. You can't escape it and it gets everywhere inside and out.

Just looked at the current observations... 70 mph sustained winds in Omaha, and Des Moines. That low will be moving northeast... Put up the inflatable decorations..

Made it through up here in the Twin Cities...

I found I was lighter on the scale as the wind passed over my head. Evidently not having functioning follicles on the cranium allows air to pass over it faster, creating lift....

Could be worse here in northern WI. Lots of power outages, some trees down. Had a tree from my property go down blocking our dead end road, cut it up and moved it so folks at end of road could get to work. Not sure how they felt about that ??. We have a natural gas standby generator which is running. Only the third time needed in 7 years.

All of our cars ,buildings ,etc were covered in dirt/ash that blew across Colorado and Kansas. We live in Missouri. Pretty wild.

We did OK, we have the wood insert running and really had no intention of using it this Winter. Power was on when we got up, had been out a few hours. No damage here, but I went to look at lake George to see how the ice reset (click video link below) and there was significant tree damage around the lake. Getting nasty cold out there. Upside is the ice will be pristine.
