Once I cast a bait and it bounces...
I've been in dry dock the past couple weeks, looks like I be stuck for a couple more. Went to change the lower unit lube in my 9.9 Merc and there was only a spoonful. Mech says I need a new carrier bearing, which he finds is on back order til Jan. 3. He's trying to locate another source so I can at least get out Jan. 1 for my first one of NEXT year. m

I think my last trip of the year was Sunday. Snow on the ground this morning, near freezing all week. Had a ton of rain Sunday night and even though the temps will be warm this coming weekend, they are forecasting up to 2" of rain starting Friday night thru Sunday. But it's not unheard of to be fishing late Dec, early Jan around here. Just depends on how much you want to put up with.

Going to be tough to get good ice with the snow cover and the snowmobile folks aren't happy either, in that many of the trails in Oneida County have swampy sections and the marshes are not frozen yet. We had a couple guys fishing on the lake where I live but they stayed close to shore and moved very slowly, less than two inches of good ice.

I think it was about Dec 6th, when Lake Wissota froze over. My dock has been pulled for over a month and the boat landings were frozen over. For the first time ever (and legally), I was able to throw muskie baits off my shoreline in December. While the odds of catching one were near zero, the fact that it was possible, was exciting. While casting I thought of the line in Dumb and Dumber when one of them said, "So, there's still a chance" when told by the girl that she was 99% sure it wasn't going to happen.
