I see a bunch of you are planning a jaunt to Cave Run in six weeks. I'll be visiting Bowling Green at about that time. My schedule will most likely allow me to get as far as the Green River impoundment. My home base is the St. Lawrence River and I've never fished for KY muskies. What tips for late March would you offer? Any advice is appreciated.

Well you will be fishing the best lake in Kentucky for march fishin. I would use gliders and minnow bnaits. fish wind blown dirt shores.
good luck If you see me out there give me a yell. I will be in red Triton with a white muskie on the side.
good luck

Sure is lucky
To live down in Bowlin Green!

And, to fish Green River. Got any 3/4 or 1 oz. rattletraps? Bring them, too! The March issue of Muskies Magazine should give you some good tips as well. tight lines, m

I would highly suggest the Rattlin Shads made by Producer Tackle.
Just remember two things, stay super shallow and burn them as fast as you can!

Thanks for the advice. I do have a few BassPro Offshore Angler Rattle-trap types and I'll be sure to bring them. Should I treat this area like Spring in New York, bringing more smaller lures than larger ones?

And Mikie: what mag is that article in? I'll be sure to check it out.

Good luck on Cave Run.

To make you fishing a little bit better, proably 50-75% of all march fish will be caught in Paylake, the area behind the state marina. This is where you will see the guides and local shore fishermen. if you dont brind a boat, this is proably one the better shoreline areas out there to fish for them. this area holds a large quantity of muskies each spring, with the biggest i know of caught the past 5 years a 53". Burts, traps, thundersticks, twitches, all will work.

I'll put my two cent's in here as well. I agree with all of the above as well as shortline trolling those dirt shores Chris was talking about. Another thing, why do those crazy fish like that paylake so much? I was down there just a couple of week's ago and the whole bank was lined with local's. I also like all of the timbered cove's(the few that there is) and the laydown's. I'll be out there somewhere, I've still got about a dozen glider's to try out. LOL!   And hopefully after the Ohio show I will have some other stuff to test drive.

You know, I have to be honest. I know that alot of people from this board are going to the Cave at the end of March and I would love nothing better than to meet everyone and learn some new thing's. However, I would much rather be fishing Green from March thru April, then head to the Cave once the weed's start to take off really good. Green alway's seem's to stay just afew degree's above the Cave and the bite seem's to start there a little earlier than the Cave. I'm not knockin the outing or nothing, I will probably show up at it. However, I hope that I'm not wishing that I had went to Green instead. That's just me though.

This article should get you started:

Also, check out the 'articles' link for the Tony Grant chat, lots of good tips there too plus the humor of Sponge Bob. m
