For those that have used both which do you prefer and why? I love walking the dog. Also, which is more productive, the walk the dog types or prop baits like the Top Raider?

So far the Jackpot. No special reason, just have caught fish on it and only have had follows on the Doc, even thou it swings easier side to side.

I like the hi-fin skywalker, seems easier to work.

I also love walking the dog! My vote is definitely the jackpot because of the sounds you can create with it. I've caught 10 skies on a jackpot. My opinion is that the popping sound is the key to the side to side baits.

I think the side to side topwater baits like the jackpot produce many more strikes than the prop baits, but then again the hooking percentage is much higher with the prop baits.

The Giant Jackpot is better than the Doc, but I like the Super Top Raider best of all. I also like my new Creepenstein

I would try a Slammer Top Dawg. Easy to work and looks cool.

I like the jackpot to but I change the screw eyes to a heavy stainless steel. The ones in the old bait broke on me. I epox them in the same screw holes. I don't know if the new bait has the heavy eyes or not. For the hook rakes on any wood bait try to put some crazy glue on any of the wood that the paint comes off. This will seel the wood and the hook rakes will be slowed down.

Jackpot, sits in the water better and I don't like the rattles in the doc.

I like both, the Jackpot works well in calmer water and I will use the Doc when I get a bit of a chop.Must say have caught more fish on the Jackpot?

I like the Z-180 and the Jackpot. I've seen some incredible strikes on both.. I have caught more on the prop baits and seen more caught on them , but I think that is because my brothers and I just weren't throwing the Walk the Dog baits as much.

Hey Guys,

I have used both the jackpot and the doc. In my opinion you can't go
wrong with ether or. I have cought alot of pike on the jackpot. The doc
gets alot of musky action out of it. To me it seems that the big fish
like a big bait. Also I think that the doc would last you longer because
it's made of plastic and it rattles.

It's a big jackpot, wood bait and is longer.

Hey Musky Fever,

The doc is longer than the jackpot. I tend to like the doc, but both
are good baits.

Z-180 is by Stidman. I got this from the R&H website: Stidham's Z180: (10", 2-1/8 oz) Back by popular demand! Welcome to a genuine change of direction in top-water musky fishing! The Z180 retrieves in a wide Z pattern from side to side that truely drives Big Fish insane. This baby will zig zag on the surface up to 30" at acute angles. (2 popular sizes) Here is a pic..

Thanks for the picture Kevin. What kind of wood is it made of? It must be some light stuff if its that much longer than a Jackpot and only weighs 2-1/8oz.

Hey MN,

I know, I was describing the Z-180.

I have both the jackpot and the doc but the ol jackpot just out produces them all. Big fish are all over this bait and I like it because it's a bite size meal for the big girls.

Jackpot for sure, lots of fish with some really big girls caught as well. Biggest in my boat was a 55" fish on Cass caught by my partner. I have personally boated over 20 on my original Jackpot. Almost worn through where the front hook wears into it. This is one geat lure that is no longer in service as I have retired it.

I gotta say the Jackpot. Cant really figure out why I get follows on the Doc, and strikes on the Jpot, but I do. Yes, they do get beat on, yes the hooks tear into the body....but its WOOD, which grows character with age. Attached is a pic of a good friend of mine, he gets more and more beat on every season, but we still stick the piggies together!

I got my first Doc this last season, and got a couple muskies and a lunker pike on the bait. I could get the Doc to 'pop' more, if that makes any difference. Prop baits work as well, but are a different approach, more of an 'active fish' pattern bait for me.

2 Jackpots being thrown at the same time late one evening on Lake Vermilion were what got me and my brother-in-law hooked on musky angling. 2 follows in less than 6 casts gave me a rush I'll never forget. Don't own a Doc so I have no opinion.

The Jackpot produced my first three fish day, but the DOC produced my 2nd biggest fish. So I feel good tossing either one. Both good lures, and both are always in my boat.
