Here in northern WI we all got a reminder what bad weather can do. At one point, Wisconsin Public Service had almost 60,000 customers without power. Still at 30,000+ almost 3 days later. First blow was ice, followed by snow. We got power back, only to lose it again 4 hours later. Had to be frustrating for the linemen, getting dispatched back to the same area, over and over. I had a good sized pine across my driveway and lost three others across the road. Thankfully, as I was gassing the chainsaw, the town sent a plow to push them off the roadway. Those linemen come from all over, including Minnesota. Very hard, dangerous work. And they are getting it done. Thankfully, WPS has been putting more and more underground or it could have been even worse. And as bad as it is here, worse in northern Michigan. I have a natural gas standby generator, so I never really lost power but an awful lot of folks didn't have that luxury. And the Rhinelander area even lost its three largest warming centers, Walmart, YMCA and the Hodag Dome because they didn't have power either. Hodag Dome deflated when a standby generator failed, causing major damage. For those of you not impacted, take notice and prepare. Food, water, all those things we take for granted need to be in storage, just in case.

Posts: 1470 Location: Brighton CO. | I saw what happened in Michigan including what happened to that poor family in the mini van, our home was build in 2003 and everything in underground, but we have a lot of construction going on and we loose power or internet from time to time with crews hitting something underground and knocking out power. I can't leave my housing tract without going thru construction zone and it's been that way for two years.

ghoti - 4/1/2025 11:03 AM Hope the Dome isn't too extensively damaged. It brought a lot of outside $$ to Rhinelander. The company that installed it was supposed to be there assessing damage today. Just the list of events that had to be cancelled over the next two weeks showed how it impacts the area's economy. Soft ball tournaments, soccer, etc. It was the main reason a Holiday Inn Express was built on Hwy 17. District is hoping insurance will offset repairs.

Posts: 652 Location: Duluth | Drove from Lansing to Duluth on Sunday, was actually happy to drive through Chicago instead of being stuck in Northern Michigan or the UP. My cabin is fine, the power lines, roads and neighbors by me didn't get so lucky.

Videos from the bridge showed it was bad.
