I mostly cast, but I've been trying a little trolling. Just wondering how tight do you set the drag?

You will get different answers here but I set my drag just tight enough so it doesn't pull line. Worked well for me for 24 years.

I also set mine to give a little line if a fish takes , and it sounds the clicker ..... Also good if you snag up , you don`t want to break a rod !

a good way to check is put your bait in the water let some line out and give it a little pull or rip, drag should put out easily during the pull

perfectly agree with you ... in this way I can extract the rod from the rod holder without problems and decreases the probability of unhooking the fish because it tears the mouth ... the output of the line I adjust it according to the bait use ... with slow trolling and softbait I tighten the drag, with cranks it loosened it and increase the trolling speed

I feel I've increased hook ups with a slightly tighter drag than what Todd is describing. I troll under 3.8 usually though.

Same as casting - pretty dang tight. I can pull line by hand with some effort but its not easy. Part of my tight drag deal is that I upgrade all my reels with Smoothie washers and my hooks are always scary sharp.

The drag washers are just one part of the system that must be perfect so as to not lose a big fish.
