Posts: 52 | So I'm thinking of getting a 9' rod for the upcoming season. I currently have an 8' XH rod that can handle the bigger stuff but my bread and butter lure is a double blade #8 bucktail like a Showgirl - which the 8' rod doesn't cast too well. I'm thinking a 9' MH Fast action rod would be the best set up for this type of lure. I'm open on brand but would like to be $300 or less. Am I on the right track with my thinking? Thoughts? Also, what are the pros and cons of a full grip vs. a split grip? I've only used a Full. Thanks in advance.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | The new TI PRO Musky Telescopic rods with WINN grips and the Revolution reel seats. Sweet spot for casting is 1-4oz but it can throw a 0.5oz bucktail like a dream and even handle 8oz swimbaits. This new blank during testing boated up to 800lb gators, tarpon, drums, musky, stripers etc. Link to see them: https://tackleindustries.com/shop/musky_pike_bass_walleye_crappie_fi... Enjoy.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I like the 3 Tackle Industries rods I have. You might do 'better' but sure couldn't go wrong with one. Best way is to find some place that sells a couple of he rods you may be interested in ,and actually hold them. m

Posts: 275 | The best 9' rod that I have is an 8'6" TI 1-4 oz.... threw slopski's 9' St. Croix LE and I still see no reason to go bigger than 8'6. I'd Just save your money and use what you have. Only my opinion so listen to all and make up your own mind. Jaimy

Posts: 527 | I would pick the 9 foot Legend Elite hands down. It’s light weight and casts smaller blades easily. I have mine paired with a tranx 400 hg. It will handle 9s and 10s too if you decide to go with bigger blades. It also bombs fat bastards and the like for top water baits. It’s a great and very versatile rod. Apologies, I missed the $300 or less part of the OP... That said I would look for a NEW Mojo or used Big Nasty.

Posts: 52 | OP here with an update. Thanks for all the great feedback. It was very helpful. After doing a bit more research I determined that an 8' 6" rod would work just fine which brought more options in to play. I ended up with a St. Croix Premier 8' 6" MHF as I wanted a full cork grip and was able to view this rod in person. I have no doubt the other choices would have been just as good but I liked being able to look at the rod in person and buy it on the spot. It checked all the boxes. Excited for my first St. Croix rod. Thanks again to all.
