For my entire life I’ve always been against silver hooks, I prefer brass or the black ones, what’s everyone else’s opinions?

A good strong sharp wide gap hook that isn't 3 or 4x which penetrates well. I use some silver hooks on LSC. I cannot say they make any difference. The only place I have seen hook color make a difference is for salmon on lake michigan. Silver hooks in the gin clear water. If it's not then black hooks don't seem to matter.

I'll wait for the response from the guy that tries to convince us that the color of the hardware on our lures will increase the chance of putting a muskie in the bag.

I'm seriously skeptical of those who swear by a front red treble on a bass crankbait. I can think of a least one pro that does, and I've heard quite a few say that they don't. And I happen to know one pro personally who wouldn't publicly say because he respects his fellow anglers and their need to keep sponsors selling baits.

I have red and green hooks for fishing crappie, but have never seen for myself a difference even while fishing with someone who says that they have. I certainly understand that we contact a large enough sample size of panfish under the same conditions and surely can refine our color choice of jig to make a significant difference over the course of an outing, but again even while fishing with someone who would swear by the color of their hook I have never seen a difference.

I tend to not like silver hooks on my muskie lures either. But it has nothing to do with catching fish. I'm just guilty sometimes of liking pretty lures and brass and black look better to me.

As is discussed in the "color" thread, fish don't reason. "On no, don't eat that! The flash of those silver things on the bottom of what I'm about to swallow isn't normal."

The only hook color I have a problem with are the grayish galvanized hooks, they aren't very sharp and don't sharpen very easy. The color isn't the problem, but the fact they are seldom sharp is. Cordell's largest redfins come with these hooks, I replace them with Owner cutting point hooks as soon as I can, a very underrated muskie lure.

Y not the 3x and 4x? I just picked up some mustard triple grips in 3x, 1/0 2/0 3/0 for smaller and mid size baits. I may be wrong but I would think that with these superlines used for musky with no stretch that you would want a stouter hook to keep them from bending out on surges?

Yes, trebles.

Where do you get them? I'm only finding the singles.

Only thing I have seen is with crappie tip downs, I seem to do better with the very small red trebles, rather than brass. But I am sure crappies eye it up for a while, unlike a moving lure.

I can't say that about the hooks you have bought but my experience with 3-4x hooks if you don't get a great hookset they don't penetrate well. Give me a 1x nickel plated round bend. I don't care if they bend in the net just as long as the fish gets there. They will often hook themselves on the hit.

Ok I was just wondering the reason behind it. A few lures I've bought have the bronze hooks that have the tips crooked in a little which I'm not sure if I like. But the ones I do like are the black nickel. Although I can see why people like the regular hooks when they get snagged can be bent out to recover the bait. I also wanted to get some heavier hooks to adjust the rise on some cranks.

Owner ST 41 are the only Owner Cutting Point hooks I know of and are only available up to 2/0. I use them for smaller crankbaits. Great hooks.

Owner makes some cutting point trebles, I'm pretty sure I've found some up to 3/0 or 4/0. I've purchased them primarily at Sportsmans Warehouse, though some Bass Pros and Cabelas also carry them.
