Where is Mike Hulbert? Or anyone else who fishes Hudson in Michigan.

Could Crappie be the main forage for the muskies in Hudson? I saw a report from the DNR of a sampling (net) from the lake and it contained only 50 perch and over 4000 Crappies! (including white and black).

I never owned a crappie colored lure so I painted one up just incase. It was a perch colored thing kinda like a rattle-trap on steroids, now it looks like a nice little crappie. Then I found one on eBay from HawaiisBest in crappie and grabbed that too. Take a look...

Does anyone use Crappie colored lures? Do I have to be this worried about matching the hatch or should I be more worried about finding the fish that is in the mood? Is this why my obsession with white spinnerbaits has been productive?

Crappie colored lures have always been one my favorites.  Especially Crappie colored Phantoms.

Matchin' the hatch is always a good idea, I think....especially if the water is on the clear side.  I haven't fished Hudson much, but maybe Mike will post here soon.

We'll see what Mike says.

I have fished Husdon a handful of times, but have not tried crappie colored baits. I have tried crappie colored baits in some of the reserviors in Ohio, but not much luck. With the color of Hudson, I have better luck on brigher baits. However, I do know of other people who fish the lake who have done pretty good on more natutal colored lures.

Lobi,
I have several crappie colored baits in my box and yes they do catch fish. One of my go to spring baits is a crappie colored Slidin Shad. Every year when the crappies are in shallow spawning this bait accounts for a few fish. Not sure how much the match the hatch theory applies to my successes but I do now this color catches fish.

Chadster, I can see how the brighter baits would make a difference on Hudson because of the color. For those who havn't been there it is usually like coffee with cream added. Visibility can be like 2 inches. Maybe i need a LOUD topwater in Crappie.
