St.Croix is poised to eliminate thier "Unconditional" warranty, but will still carry their Life Time Limited warranty. Seems as though there was way too many people returning rods with little or no defects to simply get a new rod. St.Croix's new policy will mirror that of GLoomis' Life Time warranty.
I think it's good business and may decrease prices in the long term.Any thoughts?

They should never have got rid of the Legend. The Premier(2 year warranty) isn't a Legend and the Avid, with the money it costs, should have the unconditional warranty. I asked them after they dropped the Legend what about the lifetime warranty, what will they replace it with..they said a Premier at no cost and a Avid if I'd pay the difference? Gee thanks, a cheaper rod, which I didn't want in the first place to replace my expensive rod..how thoughtfull.... Don't get me wrong, I like my 6'9" Premier Musky rod better then my buddy's Legend 6'9", but my Legend Walleye rods I really like...

I forgot this, wasn't the Limited Lifetime what the Legend had anyways? I thought the unconditional lifetime was something more recent? The service I have always recieved from St. Croix has been far superior to that I have recieved from any other company involved with fishing. They have replaced rods at their cost which I sent in only for a guide to be repaired on amd were multiple years out of warranty. They have charged pro rated amounts for rods that were out of warranty but still broken, the amount was far,far below what a new rod would have cost. For me their service is second to none and I expect that not to change regardless what changes in their warranties.

Anybody bad mouthing the St Croix customer service is just a whiner IMHO. I've never had anything but top notch, fast service for any problems that I had.
I can see them changing it. I'm sure that there were people out there abusing the policy and taking advantage of the situation. Probably the same people that drive 25 miles to a gas station to get a free hot dog when they get gas.
If everybody was honest and only returned rods that needed it, I'm sure St Croix wouldn't have changed anything. There must have been a reason for them to do what they did.
St Croix is number 1 with me. They're made in the USA and they stand behind what they build.....besides making damn good fishing rods.

Ya know, yet another example of a few "bad apples" spoiling it for the rest of us. I about fell out of my chair after reading FishAlots post. I would have never, and I mean never, even thought about taking a rod back (or any other item) for anything other than a manufacturer problem or failure.

I liked my St Croix's when I was buying them and only had one problem with them. The butt end of the handle on my Premier broke off. Happened to be the weekend of the National Championship and there was a rep there. Talked to him, brought it in and it was shipped back to me the next week. Top notch.

I have since switched over to FigRigs and had one that had to go back there due to a handle problem. In the process, Smokey's allowed me to upgrade to a longer rod for no extra charge. They are top notch in my book as well. I just hope some others won't bankrupt the company in order to get a new rod every spring.

That really irritates the **** out of me.

Maybe I can clarify something for everyone with questions. The unconditional lifetime warranty was on their Fly Rods. Legend Elite, Avid and the older Legend rods all had Limited Lifetime Warranties. As a former employee of St. Croix, I saw a bit of confusion between the two from the consumers. Limited Lifetime Warranty was any failure due to factory manufacture.

What is a company to do when they drop a line as far as replacing them. I had a Fenwick "Iron Feather" flyrod that was originally $420. It was cracking just above the grip so I sent it back to them. Their current highest end rod is only $199. They shipped me a reel and line along with the rod. "A" for effort.."C" for happy customer. Somone got a deal, I put the brand new rod/reel on eBay. They did promise to continue to honor the lifetime warrranty on the new rod even tho it only came with a 1 yr warranty because I was turning back an Iron Feather. That was a good move.

Sorry this is a St Croix post, I own 3 of them (2 factory and one I tied up). I love them all. Awesome rods for the money without having to spend an entire paycheck on super high end stuff.

well, i returned a busted st . croix last summer that broke in half on a cast!{cmon, whos ever done that?}, it was way out of warranty and they gave me a new premier at 40$ off the 120$ sticker, i figure hey, thats a good deal. i get the new rod, and the guides dont even line up with the reel seat! which did affect the rods casting...still i fish it til a month later i pull it out and a guide is missing and chewing up my power pro before i realize what is going on....lol.i return it and of course{good cus. service} they give me a new one. i sold the thing. i ve had better luck with lower end rods that cost half the price my whole life. ive been happy with gander muskie sticks, and even lightning rods for cryin out loud. i am sure im one of the very few that have had bad experiences with st. croix, but i wont go back...

St. Croix rods has never done a thing for me,even though over many years ive probably sold thousands of lures for them through using them in my guide business;however I totally agree with Beaver regarding people abusing the more than liberal guarantee policy they had over the years.Ninety percent of rod failure is operator abuse- period.Ive done it,watched it,and marvelled at it for over 35 years. As the sport grows its going to bring in some people whos ethics are just a tad out of line with what made Muskie fishermen a special breed
