Posts: 492 Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | Surfing through ebay, I came across an auction for a reprint of the book Time on the Water. Yes the reprint that MH is doing. The current high bid is $54 and the information specifically states that it is a re-print and not an original. What are people thinking?

Posts: 2361 | I am thinking the original wasn't much of a book and I sure wish I had a few copies to sell. But now, as a sometimes seller on e bay I encourage this kind of behaviour.

Posts: 1438 | I once went to a gun auction, before they became politically incorrect. I stood by in complete disbelief as 2 freaking idiots bid a bone stock over the counter Ruger 10/22 with 4x scope on it to somewhere over 425. Amazes me to this day how an auction can bring out the competetive nature in people regardless of the actual worth of what they are bidding on. And now, thanks to the internet, they get to do it in front of the entire world. Scott Edited by theedz155 12/18/2003 5:12 PM

Posts: 226 Location: W. PA. | I also saw that auction, I had it on my watch page but it was ended early because of an error in the listing. The guy put it in there twice that it was a reprint, so I don't know what would have happened. Scott

Posts: 358 | I was watching an auction for an Aqua-Vu. This guy said he used it twice, and that was that. New it sells for around $400. Opening bid was $115, ok so far a good deal. Oh, and no reserve either! Two days later it is at $250, and climbing. Dont these knuckleheads realize that if you just wait till the end, you will spend less & get a better deal! Not to mention, it seems that lately E-bay has been littered with just plain old junk.

So you can post that the sale was good and quick when you buy something off the sale board here on site. Its kinda off a double check for those that put things on the sale board and dont follow thru or sell junk. For example check out this site. http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/ Edited by Jason Smith 12/19/2003 11:03 AM

Posts: 4266 | I love it when people put up stuff that is named wrong, or it seems that everything is "rare" or "collectible". Any lure I buy is collectible because I stick it right in my tackle box. Must say that I do like to buy the old Suicks, but unlike collectors, I cut off the hooks and use them. Can't beat the action of the original Suicks. I just make sure to take out the screw eye and put in a new one coated with 2-part epoxy. Those things shimmy like crazy compared to the "square" ones that they've produced for the last 30 years. As always, let the buyer beware. Have picked up some big fat minnow baits with Crane style lips lately. Took 'em to the water dept. for the tank test. They say that they'll troll up to 5 mph, but I tell you, they're wide and very bouyant and will be great for twitching over weeds. Nice flash and roll to them. What the hell, they only cost about 12 bucks a piece. I figured it would be worth a try. Put a coat of envirotex on them and will be twitchin' them come May. Beav

Posts: 20218 Location: oswego, il | Beav, are those the baits made by hawaiisbest60? If so, i have some of everything he makes. He does great work. At first he was posting that his baits trolled at 1.5mph but I used them and gave him the 5mph which I have troled them. I am sure they will troll even faster. I bought a lot of 10 of his baits, all new for 45 bucks. Don't take a math genius to figure out I got a good deal. If you don't have one of his topwater baits or his 9" twitch bait, I suggest you do so.

Posts: 4266 | Got 2 of the topwaters. Added a little weight to the aft section....rode up too high for me. Got 4 of his 9"ers for $25. Nice looking lures. I'll buy more. Beav

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | With Christmas finally over the prices will not sky-rocket quite as much. People who normally go a little overboard will really go nuts bidding for Christmas. I buy and sell on eBay. Start 'em low with no reserve and they will all go for sure. With a low starting bid a lot more people will bid or at least put them in favorites. There has been (and still is) a lot of CRAP lures for sale on eBay. What is up with that? I end up selling half the lures I buy on eBay back on eBay, sometimes I even get all my money back.

Hi Gang, Happy New Year! In the early 90s, I saw much the same thing at car auctions. It seems that envy tricks people into "falling in love" while bidding on something, and I saw it especially on big 4x4 trucks (the extended cabs were in big demand back then, and production hadn't increased enough) On eBay, when I first started bidding, I saw something cool and bid like a madman, because the item was MINE. Luckily, I learned to back off a little, watch for other similar items cheaper, and stay with my original max price. However, I got burned last week by this attitude. I want to get an insulated Goretex jacket like the LL Bean Warden's Parka. But LL Bean sells them for around $400. So I found one on eBay (slightly used) and bid $64, but since I was out of town I got outbid and some lucky guy has that jacket for $68 plus about $10 shipping. That's a pretty good deal for an insulated waterproof coat, esp since it was a 2xl tall, hard to find big goretex, they tend to run really small. Oh well, I will see another one before next fall! There are some great deals on eBay but much of what is sold there can be found cheaper elsewhere if you know where to look. Rock & Roll, Papa Joe

Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | What bothers me is what I call the "Hoarders". They go out searching for stuff, buy it as cheap as they can then try and sell it to you for..I don't know, let's use a Lelure Creeper as a example, $150-250. I've seen these types at toy stores also, store opens at 9:00am and you see 5-10 guys in their 30's-50's waiting for the store to open so they can run in and grab the newest "collectible" toy before some soccer mom can come in and accidently buy it for her 3 year old to play with..heaven forbid she take it out of the original packaging.....Then they run back to their comic book store or baseball card store and mark it up from the $6 it cost to about $25 because none of the stores have it in stock... It's a little annoying that I am seeing this with lures..
