SO much stuff LOL

First, read threads here, then subscribe to Musky Hunter Magazine, then buy some of the Angling Edge movies.

Where are you from? Joining a MI chapter would be on the list too IMO.

As for books I've been out of the game long enough that I'm not sure, and would like to hear some recommendations on this too

I'm from Chicago. I am getting Muskie hunter, and reading every post I can find. I'm looking into those books now... Thanks

Saric and Heiting's "Complete Guide to Muskyhunting" - a must read... couple of great guys, two of the best at the game...

Pro Tactics: Muskie: Use the Secrets of the Pros to Catch More and Bigger Muskies by Jack Burns & Rob Kimm is pretty good. I read everything I can get my hands on as long as it doesn't seem like a sales pitch. Muskies On the Shield by Dick Pearson is also great.

A second vote for Heiting and Saric's book, "Guide to Muskie Hunting." Well worth the cost. Also check out Tony Rizzo, "Secrets of a Muskie Guide." He tells a lot about the seasonal effects of muskie fishing. He talks of killing a lot of fish, but the information is very good. The best book I have read on the subject is Dick Pearson's work, "Muskies on the Shield." I am a long way from the Canadian Shield (unfortuneately) but would not be without this work. The principles he discusses can be applied to other waters.

Muskies on the Shield is my first choice also.
The Linder DVD's are all excellent too.

Go ahead and read the books, but don't get too overwhelmed by all of the info there. If you try to remember everything and put all of the info together into one comprehensive master plan before you head out, you'll never leave the dock.

Books are great, but time on the water is the best teacher. Start out simple by throwing a few basic baits at 'fishy' looking spots. Gradually add new tools to your arsenal and experiment with new lures and techniques and reference the books if you have a question you want answered.

Not a book, but I would recommend booking a guide for a day, if you can afford it. Reading about it is great, but if you've never seen someone doing what you are reading about it could really help you.

Jack and Rob's book is an easy read and particularly helpful to beginners and those who aren't pounding the water regularly. Lots of good info in there to get you started. Muskies on the Shield takes it up a notch and is a must-read for anyone fishing Shield type lakes. Dick's chapte on LOTW alone is worth buying the book if you ever plan to spend any time up here in Muskie Heaven.

Good luck.
