| Started sucker fishing with bobbers recently. Found baitcasters to be a huge pita to cast bobbers with suckers on them. Thinking of running spinning gear with 40lb braid on a 7-8' rod. Thoughts on this? I have 2 7' spinning rods setup now that cast so much further and easier than casting rods. |

Location: Central Pennsylvania | Well i don't want to think about casting a big ol sucker with all that weight on my trigger finger. I'm just imagining the braid slices now. However, it is what ever works for you. |

| i use 7 and 8ft ugly stik catfish rods and size 40 and 60 quantum optix reels with 40# sufix for trolling/bobbers and freeline suckers. i dont cast the biggest ones and i make my own rigs with 1x7 surfstrand and lighter wire hooks. penetration on hooksets is great and i really enjoy using the rods for multiple purposes. very inexpensive also. |

Location: Walker, MN | Most utilize a clicker for sucker fishing. Unless you used a baitfeeder style spinning reel, you'd be giving up this feature. |

| This sounds promising. We anchor 2-3 spots when we go. Toss out 3 lines per person. Like Ice fishing without the ice! Using 6-10" suckers. Those Optix reels are cheap!!! THanks for the reply's. I do sue clickers when we only have a couple rods out.....drifting or slow trilling |

| i use that size sucker also and those rods are perfect. just make sure to use the correct hooks. i have rod holders all around my boat and toss out a couple rods when i get to the spots. i put those optix reels through hell this past season and they stood up really well. the 60s dont have the backreel feature so the drags are smoother, but the 40s do.
