Posts: 2024 | Anyone out there want to testify (pros/cons) to a lure's productiveness, or lack thereof? Maybe share some experiences you had with lodges/resorts, guides, nets, rods/reels, anything muskie fishing related? Here are mine: The Voo Doo Tail Spinnerbait is a must have for those who like to throw spinnerbaits. Excellent vibration and a great wobble believe it or not. The extra long shaft coupled with large willow and colorado blades give this bait a thump like nothing else. Then the bait rocks back and forth while you're bringing it in. I have never seen this before in any other spinnerbait. You don't even have to pump it to get the skirt to flare up. It's also heavy for slow rolling, but not too heavy if you want to burn it. Good hooking percentage as well. The 6" Jake in a Tenn. Shad pattern did well this year. It elicited many strikes as well as boating a couple in the process. While others were out throwing the big stuff, I threw the little guy and had some success. Great for banging into wood. The 6" Tiger Tube became my #1 toss-back bait this year after less than five casts. I found a slow pumping action worked best. Rod tip at about 11, drop to 9, reel up slack, and repeat. It takes a little getting used to because it's difficult to feel what it's doing. The Lilly Tail moved fish when other things didn't. Single hook makes it very weedless. Light weight and big Colorado blade makes it EXCELLENT for bulging/burning back to the boat. Great flare when pumped. I modified mine by adding a chartreuse Mogambo and a trailer hook. It was designed for bass and after landing my personal best, it came back nearly straightened out. Guess I gotta buy some muskie sized trailer hooks. The Shallow Invader looks great in the water. Had a few follows and strikes. Overall though I was disappointed with the bait. Had two where the soft plastic body began deattaching because an internal piece holding the plastic broke. Plus, the paint began peeling like dead skin:( The Du Bro wire straightener saved many leaders from the garbage can. Paid for itself in a few uses. As did the Frabill Lure Retriever... what a life saver. The Beckman Fin Saver is quite the net. Great size (piece of mind), and I must say that all the fish in my boat this year look great. No split fins or cuts. Let's hear your testimonials!!

Posts: 116 Location: winnipeg manitoba | salmo deep diver catches fish but very poor split rings and trebles. believers are a great trolling bait to bad the 7 incher doesn't work as well as the 8" and 10".rapala continues to make a great bait that stands up to a puonding, love the blue mackeral cd18.making lures is not as easy as i thought.marketing product is difficult.designing a boat can be fun, but what you want and what you get are 2 different things. i hope 2004 is full of huge muskies and may you all pop the 50 cherrythis year.,...craig......keep your lines tight

Posts: 20214 Location: oswego, il | I love my garcia torno, what an awesome low profile musky reel. My quantum 400acs is a nice round reel, can get them cheap on ebay. Zalts are still awesome, zams are magic, nothing moves like they do. Mksbass, Xllund and stan durst are awesome bait painters. Lip ripper crankbaits just plain rock. H2os2t baits look and act different than other baits. Fish like them too. Muskies do not like custom colored Slammer deep divers. They keep trying to take the finish off them. Punisher glider got my first action of 2003 when nothing else would. Tradition leads to thick skulls.

Posts: 4266 | I love Hughes Rivers and I don't care what anybody else says about it. They plain work every time you buy one and the hang that they have has triggered more fish for me than any other glider that I've ever used. Unfortunately, the price has gone so high that I'll never buy another one. I bought a bunch of CJ's spinnerbaits this year and I love them. I do treat the thread with two-part epoxy so pike don't destroy them. I will have one on one of my rods every day that I fish next year. St Croix Avids are the nicest rods that I've ever used. There will be 4 more of them in my possession for next season. Used Tuf-Line for the past few years. Tried Tuf-Plus this year and will be buying more of it this year. Overall, I went up in hook size on the front of every lure that I own. Eliminated the middle hook on anything in the 6" range. Any lure that has hooks that can get tangled together was poorly engineered. Nothing ticks me off more that having hooks tangle together. I love my Frabil net and will never use any other brand. It's so nice to have a handle that extends and collapses easily and has a pin and hole that always lines up. All I can think of for now. Beav

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Trolling even with a titanium leader might lose you a lure or a fish. We had two titanium leaders wear out where the snap rubbed on the leader by the lure. I made up a bunch with 80lb mono, crimps, snaps, and swivles and they preformed flawlessly. Since my number of runs to the lake will be in a much smaller number this year I will probably only be going when the sky is grey and I have the chance of getting wet. Look at all your musky pics and see how many have cloudy or dark skies vs. blue bird days. I love Power Pro.

Posts: 32885 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | My Minn Kota Auto Pilot performed flawlessly all year. I really like my new Frabill Big Kahuna net, too. The new Merc 250 Opti Max Racing motor is the best motor I have ever owned, bar none. The Wabull catches fish. Lots of fish. The Slammer Drop belly Glider is HOT. So is the new Violent Strike Musky Buzz.

Posts: 3867 | The Mighty Hulbert Brothers are awesome dudes. They sent me a Durst painted DDD signed by Dick Pearson in appreciation for some floro and wire leaders I made for their Canadian trip(s).
