Im not in the greatest part of Pennsylvania to chase musky, im on the East branch of the susquehanna so im fishing the river mostly (rarely deeper than 4.5 feet).
Im planning on getting a St. Croix 7 foot medium heavy fast action. Im thinking of getting an okuma komodo for this rod (jerkbaits, smaller plastics, small lures in general), however im open to reccomendstions. I currently have an 8'6 Musky innovations bulldawg predator heavy, paired up with a Calcutta 400b, however id like to have a second reel for this rod because the calcutta is geared pretty low however id like to fish small gliders (4 inch phantoms, 6 inch hellhounds, etc). Im open to suggestions on all three things, i just need advice after getting into musky fishing and going into the big lure craze and getting no attention from the local tigers.

The fish in my local tiger lake do seem to like smaller stuff. 2 oz. spinnerbaits are a favorite. They also like top waters like jackpots and prop baits, as well as smaller musky crankbaits like 22 shorts or similar sized baits. I use a medium heavy action for the smaller baits, but I use a heavy action for the top waters, as they are bigger and heavier. I think the heavy action would also work fine for the smaller baits, but with the medium heavy, I can be extremely accurate, even on long casts, with the smaller baits. I haven't used a lot of the smaller reels that are out now, like the Komodo, 13 Fishing, or others, so can't really comment there. I have a Revo Toro S, and a Curado 300 on the two rods I mentioned, and I am very happy with them. I like the idea of a rod around the 7 foot length if you are shore fishing or wading. Don't need the extra length for figure 8s like you would in a boat, and brush and trees along the bank, can be a pain with a longer rod.

I have had a Komodo 364 for 3 years now, on my small bucktail and topwater rod. I have been pleasantly pleased with it. Been a good value in my opinion. I am not kind to my reels, I fish alot, and do not always treat them well, but it has stood up very well for me.
