Hello. I have an opportunity to pick up a TRX500HG, and wonder if the HG is suitable for double 10’s? My original Revo Toro Winch 60 is worn out. I know the Tranx PG has a lower gear ratio, but the reel available here is the HG. Any advice gratefully welcomed. Thanks.

Absolutely suitable. You can spool it slightly less full if you choose, and get more speed from your big blades, without the stress of reeling with it full. Brad Nelson has recomended a larger handle, but I have not found a link for that yet. It is not a one trick pony either, as it will rip in slack line on pull baits as well. Warning, it is not a winch. It is a much larger, heavier, tougher, faster more versatile reel. If you are used to and only use a winch for 10's, you may not like a 500 HG. If you don't mind more speed out of your bucktails without inordinately increased effort, you'll like it.

Yes, a longer power handle on the HG version is the bomb. They are available, probably several options at Dave's Reel service. I have an old Shimano LJV handle on my Tranx and its awesome.

I throw all my baits on the 400ahg, including double-12s. Absolutely love the reel. The 500 is just too big. Unless it's a super good opportunity to pick up a reel on the cheap, there's no need to go bigger than a 400-sized Tranx. My buddy with the 500 is looking to sell his and pick up a 400 after using mine.

If you are going from a winch to a 500HG Trax, you are the one that is going to get worn out!
Compared to what you are used to with large blades, you are not going to like that reel.

Thanks in advance(Mike W beat you to it though with an email last week).. Anyone running this on the PG also? My hand slips off the white knob sometimes. Ever try the T handle? Looks interesting..
