Location: Athens, Ohio | Wondering that myself! Looks like it started out with hurricane force winds and rains (I'll bet the water looks like a Spring outing), followed by snow and cold temps with yet more wind. Dang, wish I was down there, I bet they're jumping in the boat! Let us know, m

Posts: 172 | As always we had a great time, mother natural was not very kind to us snow, rain, sleet, high winds, muddy water and butt a?# cold but there were some fish caught. Muskie Girl 2000 AKA Karen Deiptro took first place in the outing with 2 fish, a 35.5 on a sucker and a nice 41.5 on a Bulldawg. Yes "just another reason you don't take GIRLS on a muskie trip", that was our standard joke all week as Karen showed all us boys up. Karen fished with me and Mike today and she lost a monster right at the boat while Mike was waiting for a netting opertunity and I was to be the camera man. The fish came off a known big fish spot on a main lake point. Karen did everything right in a very tough situation and had the fight of her life but she swam away after one of the longest battles on my boat in years. I"ll let her tell the rest of the story, and believe me it has a lot of bad lanquage in it. Should of seen the spread on the sucker, scary. Most of the action came on suckers in clear water, of which there wasn't much. Mike and I moved fish in pretty muddy water on glides and I blew one at the boat. As for Mike he blew a fish as ussual.Ha Ha take that Hulbert no just riding him like I always do. We had great food, 2 days of good weather, beer of course and a blast. Hope more of you guys can make it next year. Looking forward to our spring fling next year. Scott Salchil and I have a new recipe for turkey, Kentucky Mountain Smoked and Fried...it was awesome.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Tony, it would have been a thrill to fish with you and Karen, but this weekend was FamilyFirst. My aunt and cousin came down on their way from Minneapolis to Key Largo (good move!) for the winter. My mom came over from Cincy, and yesterday when the weather finally did look good for fishing I was cooking another Thanksgiving dinner for my oldest son who had to be out of town on business. Kinda glad to be back to work this morning. Take care, glad there were fish moving for ya! m

Posts: 743 | Well, i want to hear about Musky Girl 2000's fish she lost. i heard she lost a hoss daddy this summer w/ mike too. I think Mike is bad luck charm for her. (mike seems to be back luck charm for lots of ladies..he he) Getting show up by the women!! good job Karen. Glad to see you could show the boys how's it done! congradulations on the sucker and bulldawg fish. that's pretty good considering the conditions. 50 plus incher for the one you lost??? i want to hear it. Glad to hear ya'll still had turkey for thanksgiving. anyone who is turkey hunter and musky nut should check out the cave or tony's lodge. my last 2 times down there,i called several birds (turkeys) to the water's edge in short period of time. seems to be a good huntable population of turkeys down there. i just have no idea how to catch a musky down there! sounds like a fun trip, mabye next year? karen, i want to hear about the one you lost... tomcat

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'd be there in a shot if Thanksgiving week wasn't our deer season. I just can't leave Wisconsin when it is time to shoot deer. When is deer season dwon there, that might work if there is public land I might be able to hunt!

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | For the most part we all had a blast. The weather at times sucked, but all in all it was alright. Like Tony said, the fish we lost was on a proven big fish spot. I had hit that spot about 3 times a day for previous 3 days and no fish. Everything looked great. The bait fish were everywhere, wind hitting the point, still good weeds, etc..... Just didn't get the old girl in the net. It wasn't lack of effort either! Karen did a great job fighting the fish, and even did a better job on the hook set. She set the hook with more power than most guys I go fishing with! To bad for Karen, that would have been the fish that made the whole trip worth while! Food was good, except for the pancake fish. Turkey, fish, burgers, deer, etc...... Good stuff. I had a blast, and will be down there again next year. It was good to see some of my friend that I haven't seen since I came back to Ohio. Mike Hulbert

Location: Athens, Ohio | Hey, Steve, Ohio's deer season opens the week AFTER Thanksgiving. I think Ky and WVa are the week OF Thanksgiving. We got plenty deer, please! take a few home. Maybe Tony can put together a cast & blast outing next year. Now, Ohio will only let ya use shotguns. Plenty of public land, the Wayne National Forest, just across the river from Ashland in Lawrence County Ohio and you'd be welcome on my 16 acres farther north. And, of course, the Cave is located in Dan'l Boone Nat'l Forest. hope that helps, m

Posts: 57 Location: Winneconne, WI | Tony should be posting some pics of the chilly turkey day meeting any day now. I had a blast. Too bad the fish didn't cooperate. The Smried/Froked turkey was the best. I'll have to make it a habit to return for Thanksgiving. Good to see everyone again. Happy Holidaze! Brad

Posts: 1237 Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Hey guys glad you had fun. This is for anyone that was at the outing. How in the world did you keep them suckers from hanging up in the timber? Did you guys from up north bring your own suckers? Thanks! Good Fishin!

Posts: 57 Location: Winneconne, WI | Bill - Karen's 41.5 missed my Hounder, made by Grey Ghost Tackle, and then followed it to the boat but went back after the figure 8. Karen then casted the dawg back at it and it followed in and finally struck in the 8. Scott Salchli and I were looking over the boat while it ate the dawg. Other than that, I had no action the rest of the time. Had 1 rip trolling w/ Anthony (Pork Chop) on Friday in the snow. I brought down 10 suckers from Smokey's. 3 died on the way down so we only had 7 to use. The first day we lost 2 suckers to the timber that had been hit by muskies. They just hit the suckers and go right for the trees. I'll try to post a few pics but haven't done it before. Hopefully it works. Posts: 233 Location: Des Plaines, IL | Hey Guy's, What a week I had! I was off to what could only be described as a "rough" start. I had a little "car trouble" in which I am forever grateful to the guys (Mike,Tony,Kevin,Scott and Brad)that managed to get me out of a "situation". That's all I have to say about that!! That was Tuesday....Wednesday was better(I doubled) till I jammed my finger on a squirrlely 41.5 incher. I landed a 35.5 incher about 40 minutes earlier that hit a sucker that Brad was kind enough to bring down for us. Brad,Scott Salchi and I watched it harrassing my sucker for a good 20 minutes then swam off. A few minutes later it was back and T-Boned it! All with in about 2 feet of the boat...very cool. Thanks Scott for putting us on some nice fish and for getting me out of the net! You're a prince among men and a damn fine fisherman. The 41.5 was a blast to catch! It hit on a bulldawg in the 8 and was a good 20lbs. So as I held her for a few quick pictures she got all squirrely and jammed my index finger under the jaw bone and took a tooth in the knuckle...OUCH!! After a few "cherries" soaked in Jackson County's finest blend the pain seemed to get better for a while. Thanksgiving Dinner was fabulous! Best turkey I ever had. It was smoked then deep fried and we of course had all the fixin's including Tony's famous Oyster dressing. Food was great all week tough I must say the "pancake" fish was pretty funky(sorry Kevin). Stuggleing on Friday, We(Tony, Kevin and I) finally hit the water around noon and didn't see much that day...slow day. Weather was foul! Saturday....slow Sunday...It's still painful to talk about and I'm having trouble finding the words(that the board will allow) but I'll try my best! I LOST THE BIGGEST F@$*%!? FISH I HAVE EVER SEEN OR LAID INTO IN MY LIFE!! Mike notices a BIG banana on the screen and so I dropped my line a few feet deeper and cast out my Wiley. As I got the lure back in the line starts ripping on my sucker rig and I waited about 10 seconds and jacked it with everything I had! I yelled out to Tony...I got him! The fight was on and before I ever saw the fish I said to him "Tony, This is the biggest fish I have ever laid into". It was 50 plus and every bit of 40lbs. I had it up TWICE and saw the head come from under the boat and turn spitting out the T-Boned sucker that was barely visible in it's laaaarge toothy mouth.... I was shaking for 20 minutes and completely sick! I could only manage a few "colorful" words well say and then came the loooong silence. I couldn't even speak...I had just lost the fish of my life. I will be forever haunted by that fish. I suppose someday I will "appriciate the experience" I had that day as a wise musky fisherman had said to me minutes after losing the beast. He's probably right, I just don't see it happening any time soon! I have to say Tony and Mike put me on the biggest fish I have ever laid into and I thank them both for giving and old girl like me a thrill I won't soon if ever forget. I will post the pictures when I get them from the Extravaganza, It was a great time and I'm looking forward to whooping the boy's again next year! Hope to see some of you all at the sport shows this year. Tight lines to all, Karen Edited by muskygirl2000 12/5/2003 8:39 AM

Posts: 233 Location: Des Plaines, IL | Tomcat, Thanks for the prop's! I had a great time with Mike and Tony. I seem to lay into some nice fish with them in the boat. As for the Boss Daddy I missed this past summer, it was pure stupidity! I was fishing off the back(I usually get the middle position)when Tony had sugessted I move a water bottle I had set on the floor of the boat. I said it was not in the way and kept on casting...Then WHAM! A fish well into the upper 40's slam's my Pacemaker and as I went to set the hooks I stepped forward on to the F'ing bottle Tony had suggested I move only minutes before...NOT MIKE's FAULT!! It was a slob and I blew it! Tony still likes to remind me of that day, and I'm sure he won't let me forget the last encounter either. Well there you have it, The tales of my most heartbreaking moments of 2003. I'm sooooo glad Tony was there to witness them both. He always knows just what to say to to make you feel better when those things happen. I wish you could've made it down for the Extravaganza,it was a great time! Maybe I'll catch ya on Webster next season or I thought maybe we could all have a "housewarming" party this summer...I'm sure your Dad won't mind! I'll bring a plant!! Take Care.... Posts: 5874 | Gosh, Karen that is a heartbreaking story. I feel your pain. Did you chip any nail polish? Also, feel real bad on that big fish you lost. I've had a few big girls on before, and know that empty feeling. Pretty cool setting the hooks on a real pig on meat, huh?

Posts: 3 Location: Park Ridge IL | Hey Guys (and Karen) ~ Even though Karen told me the story on the phone, it seems so much worse in black and white. Poor little thing. The worst thing of all was that she broke 3 1/2 nails. ROFLOL Oh - did I mention that I am Karen's Mom? Tony ~ Maybe you'll go back to the North Woods again next summer and I will get a chance to meet you. Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season. Cathy

It was a PIGGY, I think I heard it oink under the boat. Thanks for the kind words Karen, see you at the shows. Mike Hulbert

Location: Athens, Ohio | Hey, Mike, better check out this article: As far as some Florida parents are concerned, first-grade teacher Geneta Codner is a true grinch after she told her class that Santa Claus was “make-believe.” SANDRA JOLLY said her 6-year-old son’s Christmas was spoiled when the substitute teacher made the statement in class on Monday. “He had this sad, lost puppy dog look on his face. This unhappy, empty look,” Jolly said. “He said his teacher informed the entire class that Santa is make-believe.” D.J.’s teacher was reading a story about the Tooth Fairy when the class started discussing what was real and what was not, said district spokesman Joe Donzelli. When the subject of Santa came up, the teacher started questioning parts of his story — How could a fat jolly man fit down a chimney? How could reindeer fly around the world in one night? — and told the children that wasn’t possible. “It’s all been blown out of proportion,” Codner said. “I’m sorry (parents) think I meant it that way. We were just having a discussion. I don’t know where all this hurt came from.” The teacher said none of the children acted upset or sad during class. STERN CONVERSATION But Jolly and others disagree. “How do you destroy a 6-year-old like that?” said Pam Sturt, whose son Bradley is in D.J.’s class. Donzelli said the school’s principal “had a real stern conversation” with the teacher. But there will be no written reprimand because she did not violate any school district policy. “We have no Santa clause,” Donzelli said. “We would think that teachers would use better judgment.” Better watch it, Teach! m

How in the world did you keep them suckers from hanging up in the timber? Did you guys from up north bring your own suckers? Thanks! Good Fishin! Musky_Man We used quick strike rigs and ran them about 2-4 ft except in cases of deeper breaks when we adjusted accordingly. I dropped my rig off the side and we had another off the back with a lg slip bobber at 4ft depth. We did lose a few to the timbers though and suggest you keep an eye on them and your depths at all times. I would also suggest you keep a "dawg" ready to toss...they eat the heck out of them down there! Tight lines to ya, Karen
