I recently purchased a 680C with a 115 Merc on it, I am in the process of doing a MAJOR cosmetic restoration on it, Does anyone have input on how this model handles and any things to watch for with this boat. Thanks

I have a 681C, just a updated layout of your hull. I love the boat, it is an excellent fishing boat for the guy who casts more than trolls (the boat stills trolls fine, but the lay out lends better to casting). For the samller lakes i fish I couldnt ask for much more. I found for its size the hull handles wave very well, the ride is pretty dry all with in reason for a 17' boat.

Wax it once a year or so is about all i have done to maintain the hull. I put in new carpet this summer and she looks great.

I have a 115 johnson on mine and i was almost but not quite at 45mph. You will love that boat

I'm with anzomcik, I have a 93 681C, have had it for eleven years, Love it! Will handle bigger waves pretty well for its size (even at WOT) but is lends itself ideally to casting and smaller lakes. I have spent many days with three guys throwing big rubber out of it and have yet to have anyone hooked (knock on wood). Mine has the rear casting platform which is really nice for your fishing partners. I have a 115 Yamaha, and it will run #*^@ near 50 on a cool Oct day by myself, but will still do low 40's with three guys and gear. Good luck with it, i'm guessing you will not be disapointed.

Not sure why Ranger stopped selling this boat. I think it was a mistake.

Do you think they'd ever add a side console and rear casting deck to the 175t?

The only thing I would change about it is a longer rod locker. Great riding little versatile boat.

I noticed your post from a few years back and this is a long shot but I have a 88 680c that I am doing some work on and I wondered how you worked in the battery setup for a 24 volt trolling motor and your regular battery to run the big motor and the graphs Etc. Any suggestions would be very helpful hopefully you're still on Muskie Outdoors first occasionally Thanks ! Tony

It's a great one person muskie boat. Sucks for the guy in back.

You just need to run your trolling motor batteries in series instead of parallel. Shoot me a PM. I have '90 680c in my garage.

Can't speak for the 680C but ran a 680T for many years, loved the boat. A good friend bought it from me, re-powered it, and it's still going strong. I liked that it was easy to pop into small lakes and still capable of fishing big water; most of my fishing was on Vermilion, Minnetonka, Mille Lacs, and Lake Superior trib. I still consider getting another one someday and refurbishing it. Never understood why Ranger didn't remake the mold and make the exact model again along with the 690/692.

Hey Bud
I just got an 88 680C and noticed your offer to help a guy with restore.
If you don’t mind, is there a source for parts you like? The gas cap is missing, need a new dash board, things like that. The keep guard is gone too, and do you just get a new one from gator guard? Some of the trailer reflectors are missing.
Your boat looks awesome by the way. Would love to see more photos

Thanks for your help
David

David, call ranger with your hull number ask for parts dept. Hull number is located on the transom I believe. They will have almost every part imaginable and if they don't have it they can usually make it. Best of all they have quick service and very reasonably priced.
