Location: Cheyenne, WY most of the year | I was thinking about getting a new rod/reel setup for smaller than double 8 bucktails. What's your preferred rod/reel? Thanks |

Location: Northern Illinois | My go-to for smaller bucktails (8's and smaller) is St Croix Long Ranger with Shimano 400 HS Tranx and 65# test line. It's also my favorite. |

| i dont toss many bucktails, but when i do, its always smaller than double 8s. i use slopmasters and bucher 700s on a 7'6" MH with lexa 300s. 6.3 early season and 7.1 as it warms up. that combo works really well for that size stuff as well as the smaller minnow baits i mainly use. |

Location: Hayward, WI | What are you looking to spend? Your responses will change some depending on that. You could go anywhere from a Tackle Industries rod to a custom Thorne Predator with a guide set alone that costs as much as the whole TI rod. Both will catch about the same amount of fish probably, but one is likely slightly less tiring to fish with. |
