Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Here is my situation: I have a 1996 1775 Lund Pro-V. It has a trolling motor on it now, but it has given me several problems. The trolling motor is a 24 volt, somewhere around 50 pounds. I have a 2002 Minn Kota 50 12 volt motor that is just collecting dust right now at home. My question is: Will a 50 lb. 12 volt push a 1775 Lund? Will it push it well in the wind, or will I be cussing on the water? Will I end up taking it off and going back to the 24 volt? I know the 24 volt will give me more power, but will the 12 v do for now until I can save enough to buy a new 24 volt? I just bought 2 new trolling motor batteries, so I could always run one battery until it is half gone or so, then disconnect and hook it up to the other one for the rest of the day. Obviously, there aren't to many days left to fish. Do you think this will get me by? Thanks guys for any and all info. Mike Hulbert Edited by MikeHulbert 11/10/2003 7:45 PM

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | Mike, Running (2) 12 volt batteries in parallel is more efficient than running one at a time. As I recall, you are not doubling you running time. You are getting around 3 times the running time. Here's Al Warner's quote from 5/20/2003 and I've found it to be true on my boat. By the way...I run a 42# AP on the bow of my 19' alum boat and I always raise my gas motor when trolling to minimize drag. Every little bit helps. "OK-Guys. Here's the skinny on using two batteries in parallel versus using them separately on a 12V trolling motor. There is little know rule of battery physic's. - If you cut the battery load in half you will get 3 times the runtime. F.ex your trolling motor draws ~25A and each battery will power it for 4 hours when connected individually. If you parallel the batteries- each battery will see half the load and you should get 12 hours, versus 8 hours using them individually." Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Mike, Under most conditions you will be fine, but on big wind days you will be cussing. Right now I have a 55# Power Drive on my 1750, and when the wind starts rocking I am underpowered. You know that you are going to want to fish out in the wind, and a 50# 12 volt just will not cut it for a full day. If I don't get a new rig this winter I will definetly be putting a new TM on my boat. An extra 10#'s of thrust and 24 volt will save many days for me. You might make it for the rest of this year--but don't count on it for a full season next year or you will be disappointed.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | That's what I thought Norm. Maybe I'll just get the 24 volt fixed and sell the 2002 50 pound 12 volt. I hate boats!!! Hulbert

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Mike, I know how you fish. I saw posts on the other board stating that you would be fine----these guys don't fish like you and me. Get the 24!!

Posts: 2089 | I had a 95 1775 and had a 48lb 24 volt minn kota on it and it PULLED the boat fine .I went to a Pinpoint after problems with the cheap mount on the old powerdrives.Lbs thrust and run time are two different animals. Steve

Posts: 1294 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | 50#-24V vs. 50#-12V Same thrust either way as long as you maintain the optimum voltage to each. The question is more in run time at maximum power, meaning more batteries for the 12V. Should work fine with enough 12V power if it worked with the 24V.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I understand that Norm. Looks like I will be buying a new 24 volt this winter. A lot of people don't fish like me and you. That sucks. Hulbert
