Ok, I had a crappy season and lost tons of fish. I though it was was over with though. I was wrong. Today I blew a lot of opportunities. I heard the clicker on my sucker reel  so i grabbed the rod, felt a fish and set the hook. Finally,  a muskie on. I fight it for 10-20 seconds and grab the net. Then I start reeling again and yep, you guessed it, I bring back a sucker with its guts hanging out. 20 minutes later I hear the clicker on the other reel. I set the hook and I have another muskie on. Good, I can still catch a muskie. I fight it for 10-30 seconds and grab the net. I start reeling again and bring back another sucker. The muskie is still there though looking at the sucker. I hold it for 2 minutes, sometimes jigging it but the muskie eventually leaves. dang. Later I am casting and its too late when I see a muskie following my undertaker. I didn't have time to try and change things. but its not over yet.  Later, I see the bobber go under and it starts going off. I run to the back to the rod and trip on another rod and am very close to falling in the lake. Somehow I don't and I look up and see the bobber pop back up. I should get an award for worst muskie angler this year.

I'll be todays worst Salmon fisherman.
I only (knock on wood) lost one musky this year to her breaking the line.
On one salmon trip however I lost 3 fish that I had on for quite some time.
No equipment failures and razor sharp hooks..no explaination.

Ok, I'll admit to being the worst archery deer hunter too. I put one in the freezer the first couple days of the season from my backyard. Then I start commuting to my dads backyard (down some bumpy dirt roads). I was not smart enough to put my bow in the hard case and bumped the sight. You guessed it.. A 6 point, an 8 point and a huge doe all got an education from me shooting over their backs. After missing the 3rd one I was so disgusted that I decided to try hitting the target right then (in the dark). My wife came out and thought I was nuts, I had a flashlight lighting up my target bag and all the porch lights on to see my sights. I was a full foot high. You think someone would check their sights before the third miss wouldn't you. Duh!
Now I'm ready!

Zach, just think, you can go out next weekend and do it all over again! We lost more fish than we caught today, they just were not smacking baits hard today.

Try having some lady crash into your boat with her car on the way home from the day on the water! Can it get worse? Yes,she had no insurance!

Steve,
After looking at the damage more closer,I believe it is just the jelcoat that is crunched and there is no structural damage. She hit it on the right corner of the transom, lucky the trailer took most of the impact.Just frustrating that you can't use the boat till the Insurance Adjuster takes a look, you know how they drag their feet. Will loose a week most likely.I might have to buy that Patriot Boat next spring after all! are you letting the tension off the fish when you grab the net?
If so, there is your problem.

Zach, I have had ego bruising trips to the extent that I ALMOST want to hang the damn thing up.If I want to feel that frustrated, I might as well get married again. However, I get over it, ponder what I could have done better, and hit it again. If it wasn,t a challenge, I wouldn,t be interested.Besides, what am I going to do fish walleyes, crappies, bass, etc. I,m ruined, everything else is just bait.Good Fishing.

Steve,
Strike Out # One! Auto Insurance will not cover even though it was auto related accident.Next to the Boat Insurance Policy! Then last resort will be NY Small Claims Court! Capt. Larry

Thats too bad to hear about the boat Larry. I hope you can get that figured out.

As far as getting slack when reaching for the net: I'm afraid I might be doing that. I keep it on freespool while thumbing the spool when I grab the net. What should I be doing?
