There are no bad things about fishing in Canada.

Cons (if you really need to find some)

- expensive
- long ways to travel
- you are in effect playing the lotto with weather. A bad week of weather could bring any trip to its knees
- fishing pressure, fish education, invasive species and its effects are now factors on lakes up there
- some people find out it’s not as easy as it looks on tv or in pictures when they get there. It’s still musky fishing

Hiya!!

Pros: Pure Beauty of so much untouched country, clean air, less boats (depending..) WONDERFUL PEOPLE, and...depending on where and what species, some really really good fishing with a nice variety to boot!! Being able to disconnect from the world for a few days is priceless in this age of technology.

Cons: Not sure I can think of any, unless you have issues at the border.

If you end up on some long dirt roads, it will take it's toll on paint finish of a trailer and boat, but you can "somewhat" protect from that. If the dirt road is poorly maintained and a maximum loaded boat trailer is in tow, it can lead to broken springs, bent axles, blown tires...worst cases I've been a part of (not my trailer) broken axle bolts putting a trailer to the ground, bearings failing due to losing a bearing buddy on the road.

Oh...I suppose the random piece of granite that can sometimes come up and eat a skeg, propeller, or lower unit if you are not careful would be considered a con...

When you fish the whole darn lake while up at LOTW...Sure!! How many miles did you put on last August?

I boat mine in to the island I camp on... $2.40 a gallon

Con: It will change you and how you think about muskie fishing going forward.

Pro: It will change you and how you think about muskie fishing going forward.

I would give up muskie fishing in the States if given the choice to only fish US or in Canada...for so many reasons.

Cons: unmarked water hazards, distance, expense; You will get spoiled and Wis lakes will never look the same

Pros: more 'green' fish, more fish, scenery, overall experience, cheap lodging once you get there

I am amazed at my peers that won't take their boat. Hell, you're 65 years old you bought the boat to fish now use it. If you wreck the Crestliner collect the insurance and buy a new one. Screw the kids inheritance make em work like you did.

Pros: It's Canada
Cons: Other than the obvious expense and long drive, you're at the mercy of the weather. We go up Mid August every year, and we've seen everything from a stretch of rainy windy days that never got out of the 40's, hours of the day parked on an island trying to avoid getting struck by lightning, days where it was dead calm, not a cloud to be seen and temps into the 90's by 10:00 a.m. Also had a few days where it was too windy to fish in most of our favorite places.

We finally got the hang of it after many years. Pack your shorts, sandals, lightweight shirts, and more gatorade and water than you think you'll ever need, and pack it right next to your long underwear, fleece, warm socks, boots/etc.

Really like going up to Wabigoon, Lake of the Woods, and Eagle. Cost is not a problem for me, my ride doesn't burn a lot of gas. No real down side at all, just good fishing and nice folks at the camps. Up side is I like catching fish and usually do.

I dont know of any real cons, except you see more big fish in a week in Canada than you do all year in Wisc.... so its tough to come back home and fish

I can send you my magic bucktail to catch a big one in Iowa Justin
anyone that gets to the point a 45 incher doesn't get their adrenaline up might as well give up... we usually put multiple 50s in the boat every time we go to Canada, often moving more over 50 in a week than I've seen in Wisco in 20 yrs... but I still love catching mid to upper 40s in Wisco… it's all about expectations

Con. All of the pike like to trash your Bucktail skirts.
Con. Can't drink beer on the boat.
Con. The drive home
Con. Flies and more flies, then the mosquito's come out.
Pros: It's "God's Country' The fantastic fishing is just one of the many reasons it's called that.

Cons: Customs can be absolute a holes coming back into the states. Had all of my musky gear dumped onto the pavement, body (genitals) searched, bags unpacked, center console and glove box ripped apart, weather tech floor matts ruined by the meathead that couldn't figure out how to turn the little knob to set them free last time I came back from LOTW. Must've been working on a bad tip or maybe because I'm a long haired young guy who looked like he was on the water for 8 days straight.

Weather can also burn you if you're not prepared or willing to change tactics.

Pros: Being in Canada for one; fish, fish and more fish. Great people and can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you want it to be. Biggest pro by far is the number of fish you encounter really allows you to understand what you are doing wrong on figure 8's.

Nah you just have to fill out some paperwork. Walked my buddy through the process in Spring. That said you can fill out the paperwork correctly and the Canadian authorities can still deny entry if you have several DUI's. Never seen it happen though, never tried to get anyone through that had several, just a buddy that got one in college.

Pros: Points pretty much covered already - great fishing, great scenery, wildlife, people, and unplugging. We have met some life-long friends among the Canadian lodge owners. I go to the All Canada Show every year just to see owners whose lodges I don't even go to much anymore. Always great catching up.

JGlass, no not every time as I said in my post...'usually'.. I've been to LOTW 8 times. 2 times I've caught 3 over 50 myself and another week I got 2... for the boat we 'usually' put 2 or more in the net.
and we have had a week or 2 with none...when the weather sucks we get our butts kicked too

That #*^@ LOTW will spoil you and put you in your place.

Pros - You will see more fish than anywhere else. Large fish, wide back 40's, big Pike, etc. Every island has a fish was the saying one year.

The beauty of the area, the remoteness, the not seeing another boat all day kinda stuff. Pick an area you want to work and go spend the day doing it.

The people are great.

Learning new water and spots. Each year is a wealth of knowledge not only of fish but the lake. New areas are exciting to fish.

Cons. The weather can make or break your trip. Our resort owner gave us some advice. On a 6 day trip, 2 days will be awesome fishing, 2 days will be a bust, and 2 days are what you make of it. I've been trying to learn to make those bust days better. We've also used those days to grab a walleye rod and pick up a fish fry.

Learning curve. It just takes time to know spots.

Gas. I've learned how to use my fuel consumption page on the locator and engine screen. First day we were balls to the wall but eating a tank. Now, I run slower but more fuel efficient. Gas was about 1.50 a liter. We do bring 4 to 5 cans with us across. But it's part of the trip cost that is expected. On a week trip with a 200hp, I filled up before jumping across, had four 5gal cans and only had to buy one full tank up there.  It was about 100 bucks but that's baked into my trip costs.

Rocks. The new fiberglass boat gives me heart attacks on that lake. But keep safe known tracks on your GPS, build from there.
