What size hooks do you use with your sucker rigs?

How many hooks on each rig?

What pound wire/flouro do you use?

When you get a strike, how long do you wait to set the hook?

How hard and how many times do you set on a fish?

Does the size hook and # test change when the sucker is bigger?

How long and stiff is the rod you are using?

What line do you use and # test?

All of these things will come into play when determining the rig you use and how you use it. I use flourocarbon leaders and quick strike rigs. My hooks are smaller than the norm because I use smaller sucker(10 to 13 inch). I have not had one break off with flouro ever. Thats leaders and quick strike rigs combined.

Flouro is not wire, it can break when used like wire.

Remember you need to match the rigs to you equipment. If you use sticks for rods and rope for line then I suggest you use wire for sucker rigs.
If your equipment is more like the average bucktail casting set-ups then you can get away with lighter flourocarbon rigs.

With all this talk about florocarbon vs wire I think some of these varaibles should be factored in when deciding the rig for your application.

I have done very well with 50# flourocarbon for the last two years without a bite off. This is on lakes where 50 inchers are hard to come by. If I was fishing trophy waters I would not use the rigs I use now, I would beef up the hook size, leader material, rod and line. All of these variables are very important.

What is your prefferences on your water?

What is the average fish size?

How is your water clairity?
