Location: Kentucky | I'm needing some advice for making your own leader's. I use the rollie and helen's, nine inch jerkbait solid wire leaders in the 125 pound test. I'm wanting to make my own and I need to know what I need to make the twist. I usually cut the snap off and use a split ring instead, so I just need the one end with a ball bearing swivel on the twist and the otherend just a twist. I'm not sure of the diameter of the wire, or the exact type of wire it is. Stainless steel with bronze coating? Can any of you tell me how I can go about this. I need to start from scratch, ie- what type of bending machine, what kind of wire, what diameter of wire, etc. Thank you for your help, cpr Chris |

Location: In the slop! | The wire I have for single strand leaders is .024" diameter, 119 lb. test stainless steel, (brown) not sure what the coating is. Get yourself a pair of fully round nosed pliers to form the loops on the ends. Two or three loose wraps, like a haywire twist followed by five or six tight wraps, (like a coil) and break the tag end off. These are very easy to make. I used to make lots of these but when I went to titanium I quit using single strand all together. Hope this helps, Mike Jensen. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I make my own single strand wire leaders out of .050 and .041 wire. I use two needle nose pliers to do the wrap. To make the 'eye', wrap the wire around the nose of the pliers. Bend the tag at a 90, making sure there is enough to get at least three wraps. Then wrap holding the wire in one plier, and the tag in the other. |

Location: oswego, il | I make mine with the boggs tackle maker. You can get a cheaper model to make leaders with or just use the round pliers. You can get this stuff at rollie and helens or moore's lures. I do like my bog's tacklemaker, I recommend it if you are planning on making alot of stuff. |

Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | Worth tackle makes a "wire former", a wire bending tool like the Boggs, but much simpler. Mine handles .026" (@ 130 lb.) test wire. It makes the loops so simply. It comes with instructions and sells for less than 10 bucks. |
