| What size jumpers do I need for a 36 volt motor? I have looked online and on Minn kotas website but I can't figure this out! |

Are you rigging through the trolling motor plug or are you wiring series at the batteries?
If at the batteries, I'd say go 8 gauge or even better yet, 6 gauge. Larger the wire, the less resistance you will have and better current flow..

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Alright....first question. Was your 24 volt trolling motor wired using the jumper in the receptacle (which allows the use of the third "orange" wire)? If so, If memory serves me correctly, I believe you may need to rewire your plug to be 2 prong only, then run your batteries in series from there in the battery compartment. - to + from battery 1 to battery 2 and - to + from battery 2 to battery 3. Red and black leads from trolling motor line to the red to + on battery 1 and black to - of battery 3.
Also somewhere in the line a circuit breaker or fuse designed for the amperage recommended by the trolling motor manufacturer.
8 gauge should be alright, but 6 gauge would be better.
If someone has an actual diagram of how it can be done differently through the trolling motor plug please chime in. I have only found 2 and 3 prong plugs/receptacles, and I have not found any wiring diagram that would tie two batteries in series to one set of leads in a 24 volt system , then through the plug for the jumper to battery 3 to create 36 volts. I believe this system would work as well, but to me, would be very odd to run this way, although I could possibly see doing this depending on locations of batteries.
I believe all 3 of yours are in a compartment if I recall another thread, so tying in series there to a 2 prong plug that can handle the voltage and current, and you should be alright.

| I don't know what a jumper is, but it is wired through a 3 prong plug.
Where does the "3rd orange wire" lead to?
When I get home.ill see exactly what I have,. I didn't think I would have to change anything other than add a jumper and a battery but I want to make sure.i have it all correct! |

On a 24 volt system, there is a jumper that is integral to the plug if memory serves me correctly. I believe with the 3 wires, there is a red (positive battery 1) an orange (positive battery 2) and a black (negative for both batteries). With your system going from 2 batteries to 3, so when you add your 3rd battery, you will need to do the following:
Buy a length of wire that will connect the negative of one of your original batteries to the positive of the new (third) battery. Attach the negative of your trolling motor lead to the negative of battery 3. Leave the positive lead on the original battery alone.
This should get you hooked up for 36 volt.

Location: Madison, WI | Also of note is for your electronics there will be a lot less draw on your cranking battery if you run the screens darker. I think the power draw on a helix from brightness of 10 to 8 is pretty massive and you really don't notice it that much. |

you will then need one more jumper wire to tie in battery 3. Pos (red) from receptacle to battery 1, jumper from (- battery 1) to (+ battery 2), jumper from (- battery 2 to + battery 3). Negative (black) wire to receptacle.
Done and ready to go.

| My leads off the new trolling motor are 10 AWG, which surprised me, I figured a 112# Terrova would have heavier wire, I was hopeful they hould have been larger, because I have a few extra feet I was going to make into a jumper. |
