I know this is not a Muskie question but looking for help finding a lake with good Smallmouth opportunities in northern Wisconsin - first week of August, taking a couple youngsters and looking for some action - thanks.

Butternut Lake just east of Eagle River. I believe Bucher has done smallie shows out there. I'm sure you can throw a dart at a map and hit any lake with good numbers.

Nebish Lake has tons of them. Since density is so high, then run smaller. But, if you want action, check that out. Smaller lake, too.
Then there is Forest, Big Portage, Butternut, Stormy...etc. Thinking (as posted) that if you want good numbers and size, Butternut would be where I'd go first. But if you just want action...Nebish.

Good choices above, Roland Martin filmed on nebish back in the day. Just throwing the flambeau flowage out there as a suggestion built like tanks there as well as the gile flowage.

Probably not quite what you are looking for, but the Chequamegon Bay has giant smallies. The guys that know what they are doing can catch them in numbers as well. Check out some of Gillespie's shows filmed there.

My dentist is hard fisherman, and every year he leaves Oneida County to go up and fish the bay and he has talked about the big smallies there. Also catches some big pike.

I've been harassing the smallies in Door County pretty good the last couple of days. From shore. It's a long way away from Vilas County, but those smallies in Door County are large and plentiful. PM me if anyone wants in on that shoreline action.
