| Well as you had read last week I mentioned that I thought glide baits were the most over-rated lure in my box. I figured for how much I had thrown them that they weren''t producing as well as they should.
Well if I didn''t put my stinky foot in my mouth this past weekend. I caught one Muskie on a Phantom and one on a Undertaker. Both fish blasted the bait as if they had the blood of summer fish.I also had a couple decent follows also. It also appeared on this particular lake that all they wanted were gliders that day.
Maybe it''s because I''m starting to work these baits better, or because ideal water conditions have made these baits shine. But I think the biggest reason why they had worked was because I was dissing them.
My latest strategy is to start ripping on a bait. Talk trash about how crappy it is and then have at it with the fish. "Look out pig" I may have to drag you from the depths of the "no toss''em" box.

| Could it be that your opinion is the most overrated?[;)] Just kidding. It took me most of the spring to figure out some of my glide baits like the undtertaker and the manta just to name a few. I can make a suspending pig work now although not as good as steve worrall did when he casted mine. Practice and time are the best thing you can do with these baits. Then you can learn the little tricks you can do with them. |

| Hey Todd your completely right about my own opinion being over-rated. And I mean that in the most serious sense. I would have to say that my bullheadedness or lack of patience gets the best of me and I don't give a certain technique a fair shake. What you said is most wise and I'm starting to feel like a little grasshopper listening to Confucius
Thank God, a guide friend of mine had shown me a few tricks to help me put more fish into the boat. It's practice and time on the water that produces most of the success on the water, and not the bait itself. It's also these boards and everyones insighfulness that makes it all real too. |

| Krappie, I was really cursing some of these glide baits this spring. I actually took the undertakers out for awhile and put one back in for one last chance to see if I could get it to work. It was a clear lake and I could see the bait. I don't know what I did different but it worked great. Now they are back in. I have phantoms, cobb's, hr's, zig-zag, slip slider, power probe, magic maker, power glide, chery bomb, pigs, viper, undertaker, jerko's and squirkos. I still have not figured out the cherry bomb and this weekend got the squirko to glide consistently. I have two rattling wood ticks too.
If you don't have a power probe or a magic maker, I suggest you get at least one of each.[:sun:] |

| Hey Todd, I've got a good portion of the baits that you say except the Magic Maker,Power Probe, and Cherry Bomb. I had seen the Power Probe advertised in Musky Hunter, and the Magic Maker in Rolly & Helens online catalog. But as far as the Cherry Bomb this is the first that I've heard of it. Where can you fiind it?
Plus, I got a feeling of all the baits mentioned, my girlfriend will be most intrigued with the Power Probe.
I hope they wrap that one up good so the postmaster doesn't get a kick out of it. I might have to get the baits suggested next year...Maybe at the Milwaukee Show????
catch ya later,

| Hellraiser tackle makes the cherry bomb and the rattling wood tick. If you goto the sport shows, they are the ones with the girls and the calendars. I bought the wood ticks at rollie and helen's and the cherry bomb at the happy hooker near hayward. I need some more time with them to figure them out.
Smokey's has the power probe. I would say by far the easiest to work since all you really have to do is reel it in.
The magic maker is very easy to work also. I have seen them at bass pro and kolar bait and tackle in bartlett, il. |
