| I finaly came accross a day where even I would not venture out upon the water.Lake Erie with pushing 50 mph winds, rose up to 12 to 14 foot waves in dark brown. The outer walls of the Buffalo Harbor, had waves hitting and going 20 feet into the air over the other side, the walls are 15 feet high. The bad side is the fishing will not be good for about 4 to 5 days after the blow,40 mph winds are expected for Friday as well as Snow for Saturday!Should be Hawg Time Soon!!!

I saw white caps on a dinky little backyard pond here in the Chicago area and thought that anybody who was on a good sized body of water today has a death wish.

| The Waves today are even Bigger,14 to 16 feet, very short in duration, they be Toledo Dark Brown!NY State Route 5 in Athol Springs,NY has waves rolling over the road,20 feet above the Lake. The Break Walls infront of Buffalo,NY are now under the waves. The Tourists at Niagara Falls are getting almost twice as much water flow over the Falls to view, but they are getting mud in their eyes from the thick brown mist. All those Big Hawg Muskies out in Lake Erie got pushed my way I hope.

| Interesting little breeze out there. It's SW now, supposed to swing to W by noon, and then NW by evening - although the intensity is supposed to decline. Heard that there is a Coast Guard warning out for ALL ships to stay docked. 20 foot plus waves on Ontario and Erie, 25 plus on Superior.
Scugog looks like a mud bowl out there right now. Waves are only 4-5 foot, which my boat can easily handle, but water clarity is inches. As Larry pointed out, this could make the fishing mighty tough for a couple of days!

| Capt.Larry, its very intresting that you say that fishing won`t be good for 4-5 days!Is this a common occurance on big water after big winds?I guess I would assume the turbid water to be good fishing? But I am often wrong,if you get time would you please explain your thoughts! Jeff |

| Jeff,
Normaly Big Winds are very good to me,they place fish in predicable places. But when the winds get to the level and duration that we have had the last couple of days,60 mph +,things get very stired up.With the stirup on deep big water, comes silt and sediments. Some fish will just go deep in the weeds or lay flat on the bottom, but here they have another choice, they can go out to very deep water where there will be less sediment and silt stain in the water, down near bottom. Not to mention that the Barometric Pressure was 30:12 on Thursday morning with sunny sky and on Friday it was 29:52 and falling, that is a very drastic move that will shut down most fish for a few days afterward. | Thanx Capt.Larry for your insight and keen observation!I like the way you take all the information and put it together for a logical solution. In the future I will remember to do that same thing and try to keep a better handle on all my fishing situations.I think that the way you answered taught me something about how each day is different and to put all the variables together.Thanx again!Jeff
P.S-Sorry for the delay in gett`in back but I still have much trouble getting on the best site! [:0] |
