Can enyone tell me about the spillway at Lake Shelbyville? I am convelescing after minor surgery and I was considering driving out to Shelbyville to throw a few baits at the spillway. Would it be worth my time? I have not fished Shelbyville and cannot take my boat dur to my limited mobility. So I was considering taking a chair, a book and maybe a bait or two to throw at the spillway. Beats sitting at home on the couch. Would appreciate any feedback you all could provide.

Cheif,

When we (Thad Hinshaw and I) were down there two weekends ago for the IL DNR Tournament, there was barely any water moving from the dam. The water level looked low and according to my buddy Hajii, "The Spillway Sherpa Guide", very little was happening in the spillway.

We did see some guys throwing musky baits for what it's worth. Maybe someone from the Shelbyville Muskie Club will post a more recent report. I wish I could give you more info. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Good Luck,

Chris Drury

The spillway can definitely be hit or miss on any given day regardless of water flow.

We have one guy that fishes the spillway practically every day. An older gent by the name of Ralph. If you see him he can be quite the help for a spillway novice. This man has over 160 fish just from the spillway this year! Go early! I mean first light. Ralph will probably be on the east side but sometimes fishes the west side. Regardless, he will be the one fishing closest to the spillway.

Tell him Jay sent you...really!
