Well guys I did it!. I ended up putting a 90hp Yamaha 4 stroke V-Max SHO on the back. I picked it up this morning. I had it done by Rick and his team at Anchor Marine up in Appleton/Kimberly. I drove it home and then jumped on a plane so I haven't had a chance to get it wet yet. I'm really excited to find out how it is going to move my rebuilt Tuffy Esox LTD/ (formerly a Bass'N Mauraouder) run.

I was surprised how it looked on the back. I was afraid it was going to look big, but it actually looks smaller than my 29 year old 75 hp Mercury which was still running great, but I figured I redid it this far, I may as well get a new motor as well. I did find out that my new boat cover has to be modified for the motor, although it appears smaller.

Here are some pictures, by the way if you are in the market for a 29 year old Merc 75 hp with controls that runs great let me know.

Kevin

I got it out on the water today. I'm a happy camper. It started right up, nice and quiet, sits nice on the boat, no smoke, smooth, and appears to get great gas mileage. It jumped right up on plane so fast it wasn't almost funny. I then ran it around Mendota for a lap at various cruising speeds for and hour and 15 minutes. I don't have fantastic detail on previous mileage of my old motor, but one day last summer in Canada I ran it a long way with my 13 gallon tank full. I ran a total of about 2 hours that day at cruising speeds and my tank was almost empty when I got back to camp, I had to put 12 gallons in that night. Today I ran for an hour and 15 minutes and used 1/8th of a tank...maybe. That means I used to get 2 hours per tank on my old motor and for sake of not exaggerating I got (when extrapolated) 8-9 hours per tank or roughly speaking a 400% increase or 4 times better gas mileage….not 40%, but 400% better!!!! That's huge. I only ran it up to 5,000 rpms, (okay a little more), and hit 40mph and had more to go before the hammer was all the way down. I didn't want to push it while I was breaking it in.

So, it's quieter, faster, smooth, no smoke, no oil to add, and I added the trolling feature which allows me to bump it up or down by I believe 100 rpm per tap, which worked great as well. It's all I could have hoped for and more. I have a Stainless 4 blade, and I'm not sure, but think it is a 19 pitch.

Where'd you get the cover? Nice rig. There's nothing to compare with having confidence in your boat. For all the hours I spend on the water not catching fish, the "office space" is highly important!

Darryl,

I got it at Lohaus Covers
2768 Gaston Rd, Cottage Grove, WI 53527
(608) 839-3902

Howard is the owner and he is great. You can use my name, lol although you may not want to there is a risk he may charge you more!

Seriously, he's a great guy and my first cover from him lasted well over a decade, actually I still had it up until last year, (28 years).
