Location: Warren, Pa | So to stay fishing I plan in fishing a shallow outflow. I was thinking of jigging the side but was wondering what you guys suggested for a lure to give a try this winter? |

| My go to baits for a shallow discharge (shore fishing) are RatLTraps, small bucktails and Red Fins.
The Red Fin Runs very shallow and costs around $7. I use a straight wire leader tied directly to the line with no snap. Very cheap set-up so I don't worry too much about loosing the baits.
Traps and small bucktails can be fished on spinning gear and are pretty cheap too. I like spinning gear when it is really cold because it does not freeze up as easily as baitcasting reels. I also can fish with heavier gloves and my hands stay much warmer. |

Location: SE, WI. | Brian; I do NOT make a weedless jig, or weed guard. Never thought I needed to. I tend to use the bladed creature for large pockets of weeds, edges, very deep coontail,breaks, sand bars or rock bars. Blades tend to get caught up in the thicker weeds. A indiana blade will come through weeds better than the colorado.I feel there are better presentations of different creatures in thick cover! JD |

The body style of the lures jd makes (nice stuff, by the way) was Jimmy Cairnes and mine. Jimmy passed away recently, and I miss him, hell of a fisherman. We called it the Super Creature back then, late 70's I think. A couple folks added spinners to the tail. The first EVER to do that was a gent who used to fish with me quite a bit from Rockford, Walt Fox.
Dick Moore bought the entire company from us back in the 80's. He has almost all the original Creatures and original jigs for sale still, I believe.
The best 1 ounce plus swimming jig ever made was designed by Jimmy and my Dad. I know I have a couple here somewhere, I'll see if I can find 'em. I also have a two cavity mold out in Keith's bait trailer for 3 sizes of diamond head jigs and the 1 and 1&1/8 ounce swimmers.

Location: SE, WI. | Many of my patterns, are bits and pieces of plastic that were produced for years, but After doing tons of jigging, and trying different scenarios, I try and fine tune every environment I encounter. I believe fishing is a sport where exact- ness is never achieved, but should be, the best we can, to have success. My pours are unique, because they are hand poured, and multiple hardness of plastic can be incorporAted in 1 creature. It is a challenge to be consistent hand pouring plastic, but I can use something different than what is offered on the market and in my opinion, BETTER!!! Let's face it, we all have our ways of catching fish. many of us have ideas, whether they are right or wrong. keeping an open mind is huge!!! JD |
