| High School Muskie State Tournament – May 18th
Chandlerville, IL - The 6th Annual Illinois High School Muskie Fishing Tournament will be hosted by the Shawnee Muskie Hunters Chapter of Muskies Inc. and the Illinois Muskie Tournament Trail (IMTT) Saturday, May 18, 2019 on Prairie Lake (Site M). Just 40 miles NW of Springfield.
Tournament hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prairie Lake has a no wake policy for larger motors over 10 HP.
Teams will consist of one or two high school students in each boat. Maximum of two teams per high school. Student teams must provide their own boats. An adult must drive the boat and is not allowed to fish. All participants in the boat must wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket and protective eyewear the entire time they are on the water.
Students should organize themselves and return the completed permission slips signed by their school’s principal by May 3rd.
All muskies caught will be measured, photographed and released. The team with the most muskies, in total inches, will be the winner. If no muskies are caught, the largest bass will qualify as the winning fish. Muskie nets and bump boards are provided upon request.
Prairie Lake is in Cass County and part of the Jim Edgar Panther Creek Wildlife Area. It was opened to public access in 2002. Prairie Lake spans 210 acres has a maximum depth of 45 ft and an average depth of 18 ft. Prairie Lake’s concrete boat ramp is one of the best you’ll find on a small state lake. The lake also features a camping area with rental cabins and boat docks for campers.
