I was wondering if any other out of staters, namely illinois folks have had troubles with the locals on indiana waters. It's happened twice this year for us, both verbal but a confrontaion seems inevitable. First time a guy asked if I was from chicago, I said no and he said same differnce and was unfriendly. Last saturday a group on a pontoon was yelling at us and made comments about where we were from.

I have also been called "hoss" a few times by locals too when they ask me how I am doing. Usually bass bubbas. Is that a good hillbilly term?

Hey ToddM,

We have made it down there a few times this year(mostly to Webster), and so far everyone we have run into has been pretty nice. Im in Michigan, so maybe its just an anti Illinois thing, not sure. We ran into the Indiana DNR down there one time, and they were very friendly, and several locals have also stopped to chit chat. One of our first times down there we ran into Ben Clendening and he was kind enough to even point us in the direction where he had been moving fish. Id say you probably just ran into some hooligans.

Todd its definately an IL thing! I guess they don't like our money more then they like their parking spots at the ramps..lol. I'm also wondering when the confrontations will begin. I have not been called a name yet but did get one confrontation about being one of those guys who fishes for those fish that are killing our bass and taking our lures.

Some of the bubba bassers have been very helpful though. Interesting to talk to them and find out where they are seeing fish and what they are hitting on in the bass arsenal. Can be good indications of what we should be doing that day.

As a so called "local" I have heard the comments on Illanois guys as well. But I was treated the same way by some of the bass fisherman a few weeks back. I just smiled and waved at them. From this local to all Illanois guys you are all welcome anytime. :)Give me a call if you want to come fish and dont want to drag a boat. Your always welcome with me.

Geez Todd,
You finally caught on! We were trying to protect your feelings a little bit but now that it's out, they have made me be the one to tell you, a FIB is a FIB. IN, WI, MN, IA, KY, even in Mizzou, you are known to us all and everyone resents you. The feelings of the anti-FIB organizations in ALL your neighboring states sometimes boil to the surface. Actually they are better organized than the KKK, and more secretive too. As someone sympathetic to your plight, and also very familiar with the geography of the center part of your state(usually a freeway overpass is listed as the highest point in those counties), I have always felt that it is NOT the people who make the state, it is the STATE that makes the people(!), and IL is one of the ugliest states under heaven. How could yawl turn out any different? Not your fault! Much sympathy Todd, but please don't send a letter asking for money...

IL, IN, OH, MI, MN, WI.......who cares! Bring your money and enjoy Indiana. Heaven knows I sure enjoy going to other states and taking in their natural resources. I'm a life long basser and it makes me laugh when a bassin redneck (I'm one) gets self rightous with a musky angler. Their attitude is as immature and ignorrant as a walleye angler who cuts off their line when they see a *&$%#*@ pike come to the boat. We caught a 30" pike on Vermilion this summer that had a live bait rig wrapped around it's snout and an additional live bait hook stuck in it's cheek as well. I'll welcome anyone to Indiana who wants to enjoy our beautiful state. And I'll treat your state's resources with the same respect as I want you to treat mine with.

My brother in law, who is from IL and my nephew, who graduated as an Illini, both assure me that FIB stands for Fine Illinois Boy. I reckon that's what it stands for.

I've owned a place on barbee for 10 years, rented for more. I have Il stickers on the boat and never have had a problem in the 30 years I've been going down there, except with some ski boats or jet skiers and they are going to fast to see decals. I've had 1 or 2 bass guys complain about Muskies but when that happens I just tell them how all the Tourneys every sat. and sun. killed off the bass population. Muskie's don't eat the 5-7 lbs bass, the little ones maybe, but not the big ones. On Webster you have more chance of catching many little bass then one big one. If the problem seems to occur more by the backwater ramp then maybe paying to launch at Fishermans Cove would be more worth it. Plus on days with Tourneys parking is usually still avilable at the Cove. If the cove is closed they have a drop box you can use.

FSF, I forgot some of you cheddar monkeys scattered like pepper in the wind and are now educating the masses around the world of your jealous plight.;-) As far as your comment about it being an ugly state, we have many hooters locations, scoozy's and several gentlman's clubs where I would dare you to say this!

Illinois can't be that bad. Dusty Drake sings about it on his new album and they have the CUBS !!! GO CUBS !!! I'm having flashbacks...Kessinger - Beckert - to Banks, and Jack Brickhouse.
