Location: oswego, il | My understanding is the later Saltist reels engage the spool upon reeling where the original ones had to be manually engaged. Is it possible to retrofit an older reel to engage upon reeling?
One other interesting thing I was told during a musky show at the Shimano booth. The new low profile tekota can be made to engage the spool by reeling. This would make this a great big bucktail reel for a lot less than the 500 tranx. |

I'm guessing the new Tekota doesn't have any spool brakes? Probably just a spool tension knob? My Saltist had just a spool tension knob and even with a fairly educated thumb I just couldn't get used to casting Cowgirls into the wind with it. |

Location: The desert | My saltist is the same as Curleytail’s. About one full turn and it engages. |

Location: oswego, il | When the Saltist became a craze for big bucktails, they changed the reel to engage. The early ones did not engage, had to be done manually. |
