Bought my first Minn Kota trolling motor around 1964 it was green and white cost $35 and if you looked at it today you might think it was for mixing drinks. I had it on a 14`canoe and could get most of the morning with an old car battery. Not steady running but positioning for casting. Ive always been frustrated by calling them trolling motors and prefered positioning motor. Then recently i have begun using my bow mounted ipilot when tolling getting the push from my kicker but using the ipilot for steering and control.
