I use a figure 8 knot with 90lb on my sucker rigs. Easy to tie and hasn’t failed me yet.

Greetings,

I make my own leaders from seven-strand wire with a fairly simple knot. I first make a loose overhand knot in the wire, about six inches from the end of the wire. I pass the tag end of the wire through the eye of whatever I am tying to (e.g. snap, swivel, hook). I then insert the tag end through the loose overhand knot and pull tight.

I then make a single hitch next to the overhand knot and pull it tight. I then crimp the tag end to the main wire line. I trim the excess wire from the tag end and then install a piece of shrink wrap to keep the fingers from getting poked by the strands at the cut end of the wire.

The knot is secured by the hitch knot. The crimp is simply tacking down the tag end. I found that it was difficult to pull tight a second hitch knot, thus I adopted the crimp.

Good fishing and tight lines!!

^^^^^^^        ^^^^^^^^^ What you described is the jig loop knot. Without the crimp. NO need for the crimp. If anything, just a half a drop of super glue, once you cinch up!

I usually use a over hand loop knot then use skunk tube over knot. But I like the feed back. I like the loop knots because easy change out of snaps. Snaps usually wear out before steel leaders.
