Just polling the crowd to see what rod you would choose to pair with a Tranx 400hg. I have a plethora of rod/reel combinations, but I was intrigued by the reel speed of the Tranx 400hg. So I bought one and now I'm having a hard time deciding what rod to go with and what applications I will use this for. Is this reel better for retrieving big rubbers or will I enjoy it better pulling in double 10's. Just looking for all opinions.

I have pretty well narrowed down to a St. Croix Legend series, but which rod? I am narrow minded towards St Croix rods. St Croix rods are all I own, but I am open to other suggestions.

Let me know! Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I have one on the Legend tournament big nasty. Amazing stick for almost anything I throw. I also had it on my XH Thorne bros predator throwing big blades including burning super models. I loved it. Best reel I've ever touched.

I agree I got the 400 and 400hg on the big nasty and the 300hg on the sling blade love them all.....Now I know I wouldn't want to pull dbl tens with the HG tranx. I haven't tried pulling 10s with reg 400 yet I hoping it will do the job then I could sell a combo!!

I think the big nasty is one of the highest-performing and most versatile rods on the market. Unless a person has a special presentation in mind, I think it pairs with every muskie reel on the market.

Big Nasty! The reel has not enough torque for double #10's but is good up to double #8's. Best reel for rubber imho.

Also curious, as I may pull the trigger on one. I guess you need to order direct from SC since they won't ship them to dealers. I have yet to see one in person.

I Saw the 10ft at the ohio show last year and this year. ITs just too long for me. I have a 9ft6in predator and if I am ripping big rubber on front deck my stick clean back to rear deck if I am ripping that direction..feel like I am interfering with person in rear just My opinion

i've got both reels on a 8' 10" elk river XXH. rods and reels work great for everything from blades to rubber.

I've got mine on an Elk river XXH that Elk River cut down to 8ft.6in. to accommodate my boats' rod locker The shorter length throws anything but pulling 10s is a labor of love. The lower gear Transx handles 10s with ease with the power handle on this rod.

I have the 400 on a 9'3" Elk River 2-8oz. Sweet stick!! Their 8'10" s would be good as well.

Thanks guys for all the timely feedback. I know it is just one day, but I drove my butt up to Park Falls and bought the Big Nasty in Legend Elite. Not sure if that has a different nickname, but I'm real excited to try it out.

25homes- I want that 10' rod so bad, but it just feels way too long. I agree that I would interfere with other people in the boat. Even with a 9' I feel like I am intruding.

I'm going to have to try one of those elk river rods. Never tried one, but hearing good things more often.

Thanks again!

Yea I feel im intruding with a 9FT6IN and its my boat. But when I grab the big nasty totally diff story...amazing what 6inch diff really is...That legend Elite is lil stiffer than tournament fline. That being Said that Rod should throw 90%++ of anything you need to throw. As far as Elk River Goes I have a 8ft6inch 3-9oz I believe its their big rubber blade Rod and I Love that Rod. Has Long Handle Components are second to none and When you can get at half the price as Big Nasty Cant go wrong...Top notch Rod IMO This was my Go to Combo before tranx big nasty

If it was me I would go telescopic. Awesome rods that store and transport easily. I have lots of tackle industry rods and they work well. I am going try the new Telescopic Chaos Assault 9' stick next. Your tranx will mate very well with them. They are also priced very reasonably.

I have a 400 hg and a 400 pg. I swapped the handles on them, the pg with the power handle is fantastic for 10s. In my opinion, you can rotate the handle twice for every time you would make one rotation on the hg, even with a power handle, thus the 400 pg brings in 10s faster. I put the hg on a premier XH that I use for mag dawgs and other similar sized pull baits when you’re bringing in slack line.
