| If 40lbs was the goal my vote goes to Eagle Lake, ON. It has a history and I have seen a 54.5" 45 lb fish harvested back in the late 90s. |

Manitou Dan: If you like long and skinny, you'd love the 65-incher caught on the Ottawa River near Ottawa this year...it weighed only 38 pounds!

Sorry I didn't realize who stated this fish was legit.i wasn't paying attention to the username. I guess my mind is changed. If anyone would know if it was a legit fish it would be Mr ramsell. Thanks for weighing in with your opinion, sorry again, didn't mean to doubt your credibility. |

Location: Hayward, Wisconsin | No verification on the 65 incher, but sure looks like it could be that long. Heard of a 66 years ago from there also, but no pic or verification. "IF" it was 65, it would be the longest I'm aware of.

| In fisherman had a video of a 65 incher out of Cass lake as well. It was and older video though. |

Location: On the O | Pretty sure that was last year and looks more like a Larry fish then an Ottawa fish imo. The Ottawa is more like chocolate milk then an emerald blue. Might be closer to where the two meet then near the city of Ottawa. Lots of guys around there max out at 5'4"

| I was thinking that. A lot of really good fish , but maybe not as many monster s as GB. Green Bay worth the extra 6 hour drive for a biggy in the fall?

| That pic of the 65 is impressive!
We have some pigs in GB, personally I don't think I've reached the 40lber mark but then again I don't weigh 'em. Couple that have been darn close. Still my vote would be the Larry for your best shot. |

Wait wait wait...so this is a verified 65" fish? Hasnt there been thread after thread after thread on here about 60" fish dont exist? And now we have a verified sixty FIVE inch fish? I guess I would have thought there would have been a lot more talk about it. |

I don't see anything about that measurement being "verified." Doesn't mean it wasn't, I just don't see any evidence. If a vertical hold picture is all that's required, Louis Spray is back on top!

Location: SE Wisc | I think as a fisherman progresses they look to catch “ heavier” fish, not necessarily longer fish, although the two are usually linked. A skinny 50” muskie that weighs 20 pounds probably won’t excite a guy who’s caught fish over 40 pounds, like it would for the guy breaking the 50” mark for the first time. I think there are more opportunities to catch true trophy size fish now then most times in our history and though a 40# is uncommon it is very doable and actually probable if you’re fishing the right water at the right time of year. The problem for most guys is that they’ve got their boat in storage when they should still be fishing. The fish are there and in more waters than most people think, not just the big Great Lakes systems. |

It’s the same(hunting) in all states in the Midwest. I’m a huge hunter too so it really is a tough decision. You often have the deer rut or opener of gun season corresponding with whitefish or Cisco spawns across the north. Some years I’ve had to make a choice of which I was going to persue. I’m fortunate to be self employed so I can wait for ideal conditions/ times to take off work however muskie trips usually need to be booked in advance so I usually do a fall trip around Halloween then come home and bowhunt first week of November. Greatest time of the year! |

| unfortunately 40 pounder body of water are mostly (if you are lucky )1 fish per trip not by angler but per boat. im talking about georgian bay, nip issing and the st-lawrence portion around 40 acres shoal . i guess that's why too much musky for the available forage rarely produce giant. you got 2 choices. body of waters loaded of muskys like lsc that rarely produce giant (no 30 pound fish are no giant) or you got the low fish density but the real possibility to catch fish of a life time |
