Location: SE Wisc | There was recently a topic here about the Vermilion fishery and how it’s gotten “tougher” in some of your opinions. I’m wondering if those of you fishing LOTW have seen any change in that fishery for muskies. It seems like everyone and their cousin is going there annually, if not multiple trips. Is the lake too big to see changes from fishing pressure, or will it just take longer before it happens? I personally have never fished it but I have an uncle that has been going there for about 25 years and has done as well or better than anyone I know and he has noticed some change over the years, definitely having to work harder to get fish to bite. What are your thoughts? |

| It depends,... are you going for numbers with and smaller fish or hunting for that trophy? You can fish the shallow areas such a Saboskong, NW Angle etc. which produce high numbers of small to medium and the odd large Muskie. For the large trophy variety look for the deeper areas of the lake where the water is cooler at the thermocline. I have fished Whitefish Bay, Clearwater Bay and many other deep portions the LOTW as deep as 50 feet. You may not catch 10+ fish a day but when you see or hook one it will most likely be 50+ inches. Devil's Gap is another good area to try in the fall when the boat traffic lessens,... a 56 inch beast was caught there. |
