I fished Redstone about 17 years ago, and we had one briefly hooked while trolling around the south end near the dells. I went back this year in August and couldn't believe the boat traffic. There had to be 300 boats on this 635 acre body of water and only two other boats were fishing. I swore I would never return to this turbulent sewer! Well, my Chicago friend that has a home on Dutch Hollow convinced me for another trip. What a different lake now that everyone is gone. Yesterday we saw about 6 other boats on the water, and the fall colors were fantastic for a day without sun. The lake has dells on the south end and the scenery is truly worth a day trip in the next week if you are relatively close. We did see 2 other boats targeting muskies, and they were doing some serious trolling with planner board and down rods. I did briefly tag a fish about 35" casting a UV green jointed Storm Flatstick on the north end (7-8ft. w/ stumps)before the jump and toss, so if I encountered a muskie it may not be that bad of a lake. The water clarity is hideous, but it was better than this summer even with all the flooding. The section 11 boat ramp is wiped out, so use the North or the one on the south by the earthen dam. There is a bar a block away from the North End launch called the North End Tavern. They smoke their own meat and the food is really very good. For a short trip with little traffic with a shot at a muskie, and viewing wonderful scenery, I would suggest this as a day trip. If the weather gets overly nice, it may bring out the boaters. The week before the Pelican Lake Tournament, Pelican Lake in northern Wisconsin became very unpeaceful due to a few GO Fast boaters, so there are few places to hide these days.

My post sounded like a Yelp review! If you want clearer water, crowded boat ramps, and muskies on the weekend, fish Monona. If you want less "Mayhem" and really up close in your face fall colors zoom to Redstone in the next week. You couldn't give me a house on that lake that would require that I spend the summer on, but it surely was nice this past weekend!

Also, 50-inchers.

Great chance at some 35-inchers.

Could you imagine a yelp section for musky lakes? Just go to the lakes with the worst reviews, lotw, lsc, ottawa, western minnesota.

Don't forget what some call The Big Empty and some of us call Heaven.
