Just thought I would pass on something I discovered this summer while doing oil changes. I use to use a large garbage bag but even then it seemed I always had a spill or splash, this kiddie pool I had lying around solved that problem. It's also a good safeguard when transferring the drained oil into storage containers ect. When done I just wipe out the pool with a rag…

Not sure... but most newer motors have a quick disconnect option so you can hook a hose up direct, or could get a pair of those outboard motor ear muffs for $10.

Muffs work, but it makes a big mess in the garage. (Easy fix for me as I have a sloped floor/drain. ) A buddy of mine uses a sawed off garbage can to submerge his lower unit. Seems to work. Another tip - keep a 5 gallon bucket handy to catch what comes out of the pee hole. Or you could just run the boat on the driveway...

If you are in the twin cities area, I have one of those blue rubbermaid garbage cans that I no longer want... I used to run my motors in that way long ago when I didn't have thru hub exhaust and you needed to submerge to run...

PM me if you want it. It's just taking up space in my garage...

anyone else is welcome to it if he doesn't respond..

Yeah, you would think this large brain trust of outboard motor engineers could figure out an oil drain/oil filter design that would allow for a clean, quick oil change. SMH!

Ya, changing the oil is messy enough without it running off the lower unit in three different directions. And… with the price of kickers these days you would think the factory would install an hour meter somewhere on the motor. So, instead of guessing at the recommended 100 hour oil change this time on my latest kicker, I installed a $10 hour meter and have been super surprised at the hours... and amount oil changes I should have been doing on my previous kickers.

Yikes, how does one drain a garbage can full of water?
