Posts: 391 | Hi, sorry but I have another rod question. I bit the bullet again and will be purchasing a new rod very soon. This time it is going to be an 8 footer!!!! twice my height. So here are my options, what would your choice be. Remember it will be used all the way till freeze up. 1) Thorne bros Diamondback (have one and it is awesome) 2) Fig Rig (also have one of these and really like it as well) 3) All star 4) Thorne bros S-series (don't know how it compares to the rest?) 5) Lamiglas ( have no experience with this one) curious as to what you have prefer or just really like that you want to buy, it will be matched up with a 6500cl if that makes a difference. thanks Kly Edited by kly 9/30/2003 11:15 PM

Posts: 7115 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | What are you looking for it to do? If you are looking for an all-around rod, I have a man who will set you up for life with the last long rod you'll ever need. Being that I am just an inch or 2 taller than you, he made me an 8'5" that I swear has eliminated my need for about 3 of my other rods. Its that and the 8' Aurora Jerkbait rod and I'm basically set for the year. You will shell out a bit more cashola, but the choices you gave as to what you are looking at arent exactly cheap either.

Posts: 4520 Location: Chippewa Falls Wisconsin | I presently own 4 eight foot Lamiglas rods. I am only 5'6" as most of you know...so your hieght makes no difference. I have been using 8' footers for years and think they are the best thing since sliced bread for 85% of my presentations. I have tried All-star and the Thorne Diamond backs in eight footers. Both are just as good as the Lamiglas eight footer in my opinion. Hookset and boatside handling are my reasons for using eight footers. The Aurora is the only eight footer I did not care for...personal opinion.

| I own two 8" rods. An 8' XH all star which is great for throwing all big baits as well and med. to heavy bucktails. The other is an 8' Med fig rod that I use for a bit lighter baits. I do own many st. croixs and even a Thorne Bros. diamond back but the 8' rods seem to spend alot of time in my hands. My next rod will probably be a MH 8' fig. I tried out Greg Thomas's MH a few times up at Eagle lake this summer and it has a great feel to it. | |||

Posts: 5874 | Kyle, If you are planning on using it through ice up, I would stay away from the very expensive graphite rods. It only took me shattering one expensive graphite rod on a hook set for me to go to my 8' Classic Cat for sucker rigging, and I now only use Gander Guide series rods for my trolling. By the way, am looking to purchase another Classic Cat or two, so if anybody knows of any?
