Posts: 280 Location: US | If you visit the Mn state fair, stop by the republican booth and take their survey regarding muskie management.
Q: Anglers have debated whether muskies are causing harm to walleye populations in Minnesota lakes. Should the legislature prohibit muskies from being stocked on waters where they haven't previously been stocked? A) Yes, prohibit stocking in any new lakes that do not already have a known muskie population. B) No, allow the stocking of muskies in selected new lakes as determines by the DNR C) Enact a temporary moratorium on muskie stocking in new lakes until a study is completed about the effects of muskie stocking on other game fish populations. D) Undecided/No opinion

Wish they would have a follow up question. Something like: Who should be responsible for the management of public resources- A) The DNR B) Homeowners Associations C) No opinion

Maintain the lakes we have currently instead of letting them go to hell like vermilion and Mille lacs. Keep a low profile while maintaining a stellar population in our pristine lakes. Then nobody bats an eye.

Posts: 1638 Location: Minnesota | How did they screw things up on Gull? Gull had muskie in it all ready not a fishable population but every now and then some one would catch one.

Posts: 303 | He just wanted those muskies being stocked there to be pumped into Mille Lacs and Verm.

Posts: 2326 Location: Chisholm, MN | Hey don’t get me wrong, more lakes would be awesome! But now everyone hates muskies and Muskie fisherman. That’s a loss in my opinion! I can think of a handful of other lakes that could use some help from stocking, and not just Mille lacs and vermilion. I don’t fish Mille lacs FYI. Just sayin. A poll at the state fair about discontinuing stocking is a bad freaking sign. Duh! Edited by Kirby Budrow 8/28/2018 10:39 PM

It's election season, and every vote counts. As was previously stated, let the candidates in your district know that their position on this issue will influence your vote in November. I really don't think everyone hates muskies and muskie fisherman all of a sudden. It just so happens that right now (and the last few years) there are a few people that have too much influence with their minds already made up to kill the muskie stocking program.

Posts: 3147 | Been to the fair once already didn't know about this,,,just down the road from the republican party booth is DNR park with the fish pond filled with what hundreds of fish on display???. Delicious brook,Brown, rainbow, lake trout, walleye, and bite size species all together. Swimming amongst them all I noticed at least three muskies one over 40 for sure. I'm going again on Saturday and im going to inquire who are the highest ranking republicans in the booth then I will offer them each a traditional famous state fair foot long hot dog my treat, You know a republican isn't afraid to put a wiener in his mouth if it benefits him. But they have to eat them while we're standing next to the pond and we can count how many fish the muskies eat in the time it takes them to finnish their meal.. By the way get the poutine in the stand next to the "all you can drink milk" it is excellent.

Posts: 323 Location: Elk River, MN | I guess there's the other side of the whole stocking Gull deal to think about. It was already in the plans to stock the lake before the opposition began and started their parade of hate, and maybe going through with the stocking was better than giving in to the opposition, thus not giving them the idea that they can have their way and bully the DNR.

Posts: 51 | May have taken out poll for other reasons. Re Jeff Johnson, it appears that he is not much for DNR making decisions. But rather for local people and lake associations instead. If at the booth definitely ask about future Muskie Management. Especially if decisions to be made by DNR or locals input. It is still, at this point, "public water". Let's not forget sow close we came to losing a lot last year in the Ottertail County "fiasco" with Bill Engebrtsen and the Countty Commisioner . ie minimum Muskie size of 22", etc etc http://www.messagemedia.co/millelacs/news/local/governor-candidate-...
