Posts: 200 | So I have a couple new shallow invaders. Was wondering if anyone has opinions on the stock hooks. Are they decent? Or should I upgrade them?

Posts: 20253 Location: oswego, il | I would change them as needed with a short shank 3/0 black nickel equivalent. Do the wire extension mod for the back hook

Posts: 1100 | Sharpen them and go nuts, I add one or 2 split-rings to the rear hook and insert it into the rubber tail so the hooks don't tangle, seems to work great.

Posts: 200 | Do the split rings and inserting the hook in the tail effect the action?

Posts: 1100 | Not to a point that i have noticed it, try it and see what you feel. To me the bait have always been more of the hard rip n' stop crankbait, than a steady retrieve.

Posts: 200 | The haven’t fished it a ton. But I have landed two fish on it and lost another one that hit boatside. All while fishing it with stalk hook setup, with a steady retrieve. I will try modify one of them and see if I like it better

Posts: 754 | I always have ditched the rear hook and put a T'd 7/0 on the front. IT is a go to bait for me early season and I have never felt I lost a fish by not having the rear hook on there.

Posts: 2026 | If you do the wire extension with bucktail wire and go uo on hook size you will have a very neutral buoyant bait. I prefer a slow rise, so I used 174 lb wire and bigger ss hooks.

Bigbucks1985 - 8/8/2018 12:04 PM Do the split rings and inserting the hook in the tail effect the action? i have no idea but the wire extension do not change the action.this bait is just useless without that change . treble are way to close for good hookset and it always tangle

Posts: 200 | Was thinking of doing adding a split ring or two to extend the rear hook back. Has anyone had issues with the split rings twisting? Would like to try the wire extension but having trouble finding wire.

Posts: 100 | You definitely want to do the wire mod. Any .051 wire will work. There's always Amazon or Rollie and Helens if you need to order it. The hooks tangle too much on a stock invader, along with undesirable hook angles for keeping fish hooked.

Posts: 20253 Location: oswego, il | Be careful with the .051 wire. I have had it turn my shallow invaders into sinkers. I use 174lb and change it out.
